2 WHAT IS PSEO? PSEO is an opportunity to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wider variety of options to high school students. 9 th 12 th grade students earn college credit AND/OR high school graduation credit simultaneously through the successful completion of college-level courses.
3 OPTIONS A Receive College credit ONLY All costs paid by the Student/Parent B Receive College AND High School credit Cost for Tuition, fees, & textbooks paid by Tipp City & State Board of Education.
4 Students must carry a minimum of 3 credits per semester. (Seniors 2.5 credits per semester) A maximum total number of total credits cannot exceed 7 credits per year. (= # of periods at THS) PSEO courses are NOT eligible for weighted grades or Honors Diploma. PSEO grades will count in GPA.
5 Important note: Courses that are not completed, withdrawn after the due date, or failed MUST BE REPAID by the student/parent ALL CHANGES MUST BE APPROVED BY YOUR HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR PRIOR TO MAKING THE CHANGE.
6 Items NOT covered by the PSEO Program Personal materials such as: optional books computer software calculators, tools, etc. transportation and parking expenses Accuplacer Test (2 nd attempt)

10 College Expectations Remember: You ARE considered an adult, college student and are expected to behave like one at all times. You must also: Attend a PSEO Mandatory Orientation Log on to your new College account Register for courses Acquire a student ID card Purchase books Attend class regularly and on time.
11 The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. * Access by parents is limited by law. Professors cannot discuss grades, assignments, attendance with anyone other than the student.
12 Students are subject to the same requirements as all other THS athletes. Athletes must be passing the equivalent of 5 (1/2 credit) classes per semester. ** Be sure to discuss with coaches your participation in PSEO, as practice time and travel time may conflict.
13 Benefits vs. Risks of PSEO Benefits Extends the HS curriculum Earn both high school and college credit Financial benefit Savings in cost and time by taking Basic Education Requirements before entering College. Risks Increased STUDENT responsibility Scheduling conflicts (athletics, other school functions) Affects GPA, class rank, and eligibility Cost of transportation Weather Scheduling conflict with 2hr delays Could incur financial obligation if course is dropped or failed No access to student progress until final grade
14 Summary of Steps Sign & return INTENT TO PARTICIPATE (by March 30) Obtain PSEO application from Guidance Complete the application IN INK & w/parent signature Return completed application to HS Counselor with 2 stamps Once you are accepted, you must call to schedule entrance exam (ie. COMPASS or Accuplacer) Attend PSEO Orientation meeting and Schedule college courses
15 IMPORTANT DATES March 30 submit Intent to Participate Apr 15 Applications due to Sinclair for Fall & Spring Semesters May 1 Sinclair PSEO testing to be completed for Fall & Spring Semesters May 1 Applications due for Fall & Spring Semesters June 29 Accuplacer Testing & ACT score submission Nov. 1 NEW PSEO applications for Spring semester Reminder students must Re-Apply each year.

17 WHAT IS DUAL ENROLLMENT? Dual enrollment courses allow students to complete college credit while simultaneously earning high school credit. Dual Enrollment classes are taught at THS by THS teachers (adjunct professors). These credits can be transferred to other colleges/universities.

19 REQUIREMENTS FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT Urbana University Eligibility: Senior, Junior, or sophomore 3.0 cum GPA or letter of recommendation from teacher Application: Cost: Application and Registration forms completed in September. Estimated at $75 per sem hour; billed directly by university to student. Sinclair Community College Eligibility: Successful completion of two units of English/Language Arts with a minimum B average A sub-score of 18 in English and 21 in Reading on ACT or college ready score on ACCUPLACER Application: Completed by May 1 Cost: Estimated at $25 per sem hour; billed directly by university to student.
