1 UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING: INFORMATION SERVICES Review of Progress: Service Area Plan Progress against the key priorities for 2012 as identified in the Service Area Plan are summarised in the table below. The traffic light + blue system, RAGB, summarises progress: Red Amber Green Blue Objective not achieved or not likely to be achieved or major delay Progress delayed or significant change in plan need to achieve objective Successfully completed or progress broadly on target Exceeded expectations or progress well ahead of target Objective from a.1: research admin & a.2: REF and citation analysis & a.3: STORRE & a.13: integration of research related information a.5: library resources to research & j.4: collaborative purchasing Complete deployment of Research Management System for academic and administrative staff, and assist REO and others with associated process and workflow changes. General for the REF submission, including citation analysis. Revise STORRE in light of integration of these activities with the RMS Be proactive with other Scottish university libraries in securing the future of SHEDL and planning for a further round of collaborative book and print journal purchasing. Trial and evaluate novel methods of e-book licensing and deployment. Investigate the use of the JUSP and the software resulting from the RAPTOR project as tools for better measurement of usage by staff and students of electronic scholarly resources RMS successfully deployed. Citation analysis skills developed within. STORRE workflow revised following integration with RMS and there is evidence that STORRE deposit rates are rising. New SHEDL deals secured as part of a major expansion of coverage agreed by all Scottish HE libraries. New collaborative print journal contract agreed and change of supplier implemented. Successful trial of Patron Driven Acquisition acquisition model for e-books licensing completed and there are new SHEDL deals for e- books: these have significantly increased the number of e- book titles available to members of the University. JUSP being used to inform journal procurement/ deselection. Pilot RAPTOR service in place and impact on planning and service

Map current usage of e-assessment across the University Devise plans for updating scholarly materials for sport programmes and research resulting from re-focus in the School of Sport; start implementation Devise plans in conjunction with the Students Union to trial an aspect of student mutual, possibly in areas of one or two Schools Provide more tailored induction and information literacy sessions for international students. Participate in changes in overall induction programme Migrate a redesigned IS web site to the new Content Management System. Support the introduction of QR codes externally and trial their use in the library at the Stirling campus In conjunction with Sport, E & CS and Finance revise network and IT arrangements for sports partners on the Stirling campus; implement Complete the final trial of the selected print management software and deploy so that all staff are made aware when printing of the financial and environmental cost of each print monitoring being evaluated. Review, report and map completed and being used to inform IS planning. Recommendations from the review being implemented. Partial map developed and being used to inform IS planning. Review is now part of the general revision of LTQES. Blackboard successfully deployed at the core of Succeed replacing WebCT and problems with beginning of semester usage spike resolved. Listen Again converted from pilot to production service. PDP software developed and is ing the new PDP module. Some progress on e- assessment mapping. Implementation underway. Useful mobile apps wiki implemented; greater use of student helpers at beginning of AY induction activities. Successfully completed. New IS web site launched summer 2012 to positive reviews. QR codes available extensively in the Stirling library building and used widely by DEA. No substantive progress. Successfully completed, staff printing service launched summer 2012.

Procure MFD fleet; complete the initial deployment of the staff printing service. Launch the staff scanning service Extend opening hours of library building at Stirling campus until midnight during semester and review uptake. Consider earlier opening on weekdays Successfully manage resources to progress according to plan: the three major corporate system projects (Business Intelligence, Research Management System, Content Management System); major systems upgrades; and the highest priority developmental projects. Ensure that there are adequate levels of resources and skills when the three major projects move from project mode to operation mode. Support Implementation of SAAS reporting, development of HEAR, enhancement of online self service for students. Collaborate with Finance to progress greater exploitation of the capabilities in Agresso. Explore electronic distribution of meeting papers and use of mobile devices at meetings to access them Successfully implement the next phases of the Business Intelligence project Clarify roles and proactively encourage greater engagement Discuss IT services with each School and Service Directorate informed by the IT survey results. Devise, and agree, a better articulation of responsibilities and proposals for greater collaboration, communication, effectiveness and efficiency; begin implementation. Review database and database hardware platform strategies Discuss the extent to which, if any, consolidation of student enquiry points is included in the Atrium project and develop plans as agreed Start, and conclude, re-negotiation of the Library SLA with NHS Highland Follow up mapping and gap exercise of provision at module level. Undertake needs analysis of researchers across the University and develop proposals for addressing issues identified Stirling library now opens 8 am until 2 am on semester weekdays. Good progress on all major projects, although some delays due to project creep and additional higher priority developments being requested and agreed. Progress on other projects, although in some cases with delays. No progress on ing electronic distribution of meeting papers after failing to secure financing for the project. Good progress made, but major delay in deployment, partly due to requirements creep. Better clarity of library representatives role in content acquisition. Discussions with the School of Natural Sciences, but no wider. Database and database hardware strategies revised and being implemented. Discussions continue with no definite conclusion. Discussions underway but no agreement, principally because of a potential major funding gap. New information literacy opportunities for researchers developed and trialled.

Complete and implement CampusNet review Promote the benefits of StirGate and add further collections to the index Undertake an options appraisal for out of hours and recommend how best to proceed Be proactive in the discussions amongst Scottish universities and the SFC regarding taking forward the findings of the SFC Funded HEIDS Feasibility Study on Collaborative IT Shared and follow up to the McClelland Report on Scottish Shared public sector ICT services; and participate in resulting actions where advantageous for the University. Participate in the JISC/SCONUL UK wide managed subscriptions and licensing for scholarly resources pilot; be opportunistic when opportunities arise as a result of the JANET (UK) cloud brokerage initiative (eg cloud service for staff storage). Complete a detailed options appraisal for the future of student and staff (in-house, Microsoft or Google hosted), including associated collaboration tools and services in the cloud such as Microsoft Office 365, before deciding on whether to proceed with upgrading Microsoft Exchange to version 2010; start planning for implementing the agreed route(s) j.9: video, web Develop with E & CS, DEA and others, and Slow progress. Most recommendations now completed. New services in mstir for Succeed notifications, Listen Again, bus timetables and personalised reading lists. New app for accessing Succeed available. Undertaking systematic review of publisher apps Plan developed but not agreed at University level. Plans devised for staffing capacity issues, but not resolved. IT services plans devised for student accommodation and initial phase being implemented. eduroam deployed. CampusNet review delayed due to failure of securing financing for project. Promotion completed and STORRE added. Some progress, but recommendations not yet identified. Slow progress on HEIDS and JANET brokerage shared services initiatives. Scottish lead on JISC/SCONUL UK wide managed subscriptions and licensing for scholarly resources pilot with phase one production service deployed and helping to inform phase two developments. Student will be migrated to Microsoft Office 365 January 2013; review of staff service delayed, but process agreed. Involved in two JISC funded projects exploring cloud and collaborative services for library IT.
