Where are we now? What needs to happen next? Responsibilities We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. The most pressing task is to teach people how to learn. Peter Drucker

3 What does BCoT want? To provide a clear progression route within further education for existing and local learners onto level 4 programmes and beyond. To develop higher education by working with employers and our partner universities to develop new flexible routes into pre-degree and degree level learning. Allow people to work and study at the same time, developing specific skills employers are seeking Allow people to work and study at the same time, developing specific skills employers are seeking, providing more cost effective learning opportunities than traditional university undergraduate provision. We will look to develop full-cost higher-level provision, as well as that supported through government loans. Employer sponsored provision, and professional level qualifications validated by professional bodies, provide a significant opportunity for development

4 Why is it important? The skills associated with higher education... Are good for the individual who acquire them and good for the economy. Helps to unlock learner talent and aspire to change their life for the better. Aid local businesses and public services to innovate and prosper. Help towards local economy to thrive by creating jobs, helping businesses become more competitive and driving economic regeneration

5 What will happen when we get there? Progression routes to Level 4-6 programmes for all learners no matter what their vocation or starting point. Progression to HE, whether internal or external, will be a college-wide mindset. Adult learners will look to BCoT to develop their employability and career prospects. Employers will see the opportunity to invest in the workforce to aid in the development of the local economy

Principles to follow Provide opportunities for all and welcome people of all abilities and backgrounds. Judging the quality of our results Increase in enrolment on higher education and professional courses. Meeting HEFCE numbers Increase in success rates across all higher education programmes Successful recruitment to new HE programmes Raised awareness of BCoT Increase in local employer satisfaction meeting their needs delivering an effective workforce with the necessary skills

7 Allow people to work and study at the same time, developing specific skills employers are seeking Where are we now? BCoT currently offers 4 full-time courses in Business, Hair and Beauty, Textiles for Fashion, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. There are 18 part-time courses offered in most areas. What happens next Effective promotion to existing Level 3 learners the benefits of continuing higher education at BCoT. Build all key subject specialist areas to include programmes to at least Level 4. Through targeted marketing promote higher education to local FE and Six Form colleges. Develop generic pre-access and Access to Higher Education programme to run across all curriculum areas for adults who do not have the entry qualification or study skills looking to enter higher education. Develop new degree programmes aimed at adults looking to upskill. College wide marketing to inspire and capture lower level learners to aim for higher education

8 Who should be doing what? The Director of Curriculum Business and Creative Technologies: 1. Implement and monitor HE Strategy working with staff to develop and grown in their delivery and understanding of HE in FE. 2. Support programmes through the validation/re-validation process. 3. Develop flexible programmes from Level 4 to Level 6 in all subject specialist areas. 4. Chair the HE Forum and devise suitable training for those delivering BCoT. 5. Support Programme Managers in developing courses/teams delivering HE. Programme managers 1. Identify and lead new programmes through validation/revalidation process. 2. Actively promote HE in BCoT through curriculum. 3. Performance manage delivery team in setting targets to enhance CPD, enrolment and success KPI. 4. Take responsibility for HE in given area. 5. Ensure all team members attend HE Forum as part of growth and development. Marketing 1. Increase awareness of HE in BCoT through school liaison. 2. Raise visual representative of BCoT throughout College. 3. Develop an effective marketing campaign to be implemented throughout the year. Through performance management and targeting. 4.
