1 IMPROVING FOCUSED ON THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE 2015 COMMUNITY REPORT
2 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT A focus on the Patient Experience is transforming the way patient care is being delivered today. As Tampa Bay s largest healthcare system with more than 1.1 million patients served last year, our teams are committed to providing high quality health care compassionately, to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient. During the past year considerable efforts were put into the integration of our newest HCA West Florida additions, Memorial Hospital of Tampa, Palms of Pasadena Hospital, and Tampa Community Hospital into our system. With the acquisition of Citrus Memorial Hospital in November 2014, efforts began immediately to initiate improvements in the physical plant, the function of the ER and an enhanced focus on service and quality. We completed the construction of and opened our second freestanding ER. We have a similarly ambitious agenda for 2015 that once completed, should position us to better meet the healthcare needs of the communities we serve. More than $104 million in expansion and renovations are underway at our hospitals, including a 72-bed ER at Brandon Regional, OR and ER expansions at Doctors Hospital, the addition of two floors at Oak Hill to support the development of an OB Service, construction of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Trinity and a new patient tower at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center. Plans for multiple other projects are under various stages of development as we continue to add new technology and make improvements in our physical plants. To ensure patients have access to their health information quickly, we launched a patient portal on each hospital website this year. Now patients, like their physicians, have immediate access to their personal health information. Our continued focus on improving ER operations through analysis and re-engineering resulted in even lower average wait times and efficiencies, with ERs continuing to outperform national and state metrics, with an average ER Wait Time of 18 minutes to see a doctor or physician extender. Access to healthcare services is still a barrier in many communities, and we will continue to advocate for solutions. All of our hospitals have on-site benefits educators to assist qualifying patients with enrollment in Medicaid, community sponsored health plans and health insurance available through the Health Exchange. With an economic impact exceeding $1.78 billion in the greater Tampa Bay area last year, I hope you will take the time to review our many successes in providing the highest quality of services to our patients and our commitment to making the communities we serve successful. Sincerely, Peter A. Marmerstein, FACHE President & Chief Executive Officer
