1 ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF FINANCIAL PLANNING ISSUANCE OF QUALIFICATION FOR ADVANCED DIPLOMA PROGRAM The successful completion of all modules is required to achieve the Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning qualification. Statements of Attainment cannot be issued for individual modules where the units of competence are covered across more than one module. A Certificate of Completion will be issued in these circumstances until the requirements for a Statement of Attainment are met. A Statement of Attainment will be issued for any unit of competency successfully completed in the event that the full qualification is not completed. If you are looking to broaden your knowledge of financial planning and are looking for a role where you give advice on more complex financial products then the Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning is for you. Consider this financial course if you are presently: A para-planner, a financial planner, a practice manager or financial planning manager An employee who is expected to continue studying after completing the Diploma of Financial Planning A student who holds other qualifications (e.g. a Bachelor degree) and is working towards becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional Requiring Financial Planning Association (FPA) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points COURSE DESIGN AND STRUCTURE To be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning you must successfully the 3 core modules plus an elective (who you may have completed during your Diploma studies). Each module is divided into chapters. You may choose to enrol in the full qualification or select individual modules at a time. Study is self-paced and involves 5 7 hours per week over 2 years. The 3 core modules are: Advanced Estate Planning (AEP) The module introduces advanced estate planning fundamentals and the advisers role in the estate planning process as well as other professionals involved. The module also takes a close look at estate planning structures and discusses the advantages of testamentary trusts and how they are used in estate planning. The section on superannuation and estate planning describes superannuation death benefits in the context of the estate planning environment and compares the tax treatment of death benefits for dependants and nondependants. Also discussed is estate planning for small businesses, buy/sell agreements and insurance policies. A section on advanced strategies identifies areas that will hinder the success of an estate plan and assists clients in a practical manner with particular areas of concern in relation to beneficiaries and their needs. Advanced Taxation and Superannuation (ATX) The module outlines the Australian taxation system including the taxation of residents and non-residents, deductions, tax offsets and dividend imputation. FBT and salary packaging explains how salary packaging can benefit employees. The CGT and small business chapter discusses key features of the Australian capital gains tax (CGT) system including calculating capital gains and losses. Business and investment structures are looked at in detail, explaining basic considerations in the selection of investment or business structures. The section on trusts defines a trust and explains the uses and applications of trusts, including their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the last section covers advanced taxation, superannuation and social security strategies discusses superannuation strategies such as transition to retirement and non-concessional contributions.

3 Advanced SOAs and Complex Advice (ASA) Students will learn how to construct a comprehensive Statement of Advice (SOA) containing innovative strategy recommendations for a range of complex client scenarios. Students will also learn how to conduct complex research, provide professional and technical guidance to their staff, peers and the industry, as well as important management tools needed for the effective operation of any financial advisory business. The module achieves this through presenting the core legal, professional and ethical requirements when providing advice, as well as skills development such as communication, effective data collection, researching in complex situations, advanced strategy development, business coaching, and managing business and human resources. 4 Units of competency awarded will also depend on the elective module chosen CERTIFIRED PLANNER DISTINCTION Pinnacle s Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning is an approved pathway to commencing study in the FPA s CFP program. The entry requirements for CFP Certification Program are: Ethics: Member of FPA and committed to FPA Code of Professional Practice Education: Approved Degree or Degree plus Advanced Diploma or Advanced Diploma plus progressing towards a Degree Experience: Authorised Representative Status for 12 months or a letter from your employer confirming that you have 12 months experience. The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) offers international recognition as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional, which is the highest industry designation available to financial planners. CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER status certification can be attained by meeting the prerequisites to enter the program, undergo further study and assessment, have extensive industry experience and abide by the code of ethics and rules of professional conduct. To retain their status, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professionals must satisfy ongoing renewal requirements. CFP and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER are certification marks owned outside the US by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. Financial Planning Association of Australia Limited is the marks licensing authority for the CFP marks in Australia, through agreement with FPSB. Links COURSE DELIVERY You can complete this Advanced Financial Planning Diploma online via distance learning; it is delivered in English and we use a variety of e-learning methods and assessment tools. Online, timed, open-book multiple choice knowledge for each chapter. Students can undertake the assessment for each chapter separately, rather than a full module at a time, allowing for gradual completion of the module. Students will be advised of the outcome of their exam instantaneously. If a Not Yet Competent result is achieved, two subsequent attempts of the knowledge exams are allowed.

5 2. A series of assignment tasks (referred to as a project at Pinnacle) across the Advanced Diploma qualification. There is no separate project for each module. The project entails analysis and critical thinking in the formation of client scenarios, and application of knowledge learnt. The project is completed offline and submitted via the online Learning Management system once completed. Students are allowed 1 attempt at projects within the course fee. Students who do not pass their project a first time are able to re-submit their project a second time, once the resubmission fee is paid. The pass mark for exams and projects, which are all conducted online, is 80%. Students do not need to book to undertake exams or lodge projects. These can be taken at any time in any order. Recognition of Competency/ Recognition of Prior Learning (ROC/ RPL) Pinnacle has developed the following types of ROC/RPL pathways: Credit Transfer Mutual Recognition Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Workplace Assessment Workplace Assessor Workplace Assessment Pinnacle Assessor General Assessment; Formal Examination and Credit Transfer Other Course Prerequisite Requirements The entry requirement for this qualification is completion of the Financial Services units from the core of the Diploma in Financial Planning in the Financial Services Training Package FNS10. Computer/ Technology Requirements Learners will require access to the internet and a computer. Specifically: A computer compatible with Windows Microsoft Office applications (2007 or above) High-speed internet access (broadband or ADSL) An account A printer A computer headset may be required for online webinars/ recordings PATHWAYS AFTER QUALIFICATION After achieving the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning students may undertake the FPA s CFP program (as outlined above) Articulation arrangements are currently being reviewed for this qualification. Pinnacle has also entered into agreements with the University of New England (UNE) and Griffith University for the previous FNS60404 Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) qualification.
