Dear Math 227 Students, Fall 2013 Online Math 227 Welcome to your ITV Math 125 course. The advantage of taking this course is that you can view PowerPoint presentation, watch video lectures, and complete the online assignments at any time and location but the course has the same rigorous curriculum as a classroom course. The majority of the work is online without the presence of an instructor. Successful students for online math courses are self-motivated and highly disciplined. A brief introduction about myself: I have been teaching community college math courses for many years and I am excited to make a transition from the traditional lecture to the online teaching course design. We have to commit to hard work and persistence in order to make a successful online course together. I look forward to supporting you through Q&A, email, and virtual office hours. Professor Debby Wong Course Basics There are three components for this online Math 227 course. Component 1 (Online PowerPoint and Video Lecture) Online video lectures are provided by the courseware called MyMathLabsPlus. Online PowerPoint presentations are provided by me and posted online. A media assignment such as PowerPoint presentation or video lecture will be assigned as homework. You can access unassigned PowerPoint presentation
and video lectures on your own through Multimedia Library. Some Practice It exercises may follow a PowerPoint presentation to reinforce materials learned. Component 2 (Online Homework Assignment and Online Quizzes) You are expected to complete online homework with multiple attempts allowed through MyMathLabsPlus which will provide immediate feedback with tutorial resources. Each assignment score will be recorded automatically once you hit submit online. After completing a chapter online homework assignments, you will take the chapter online quiz without tutorial resources. You are allowed to retake a quiz before the due date to improve your online quiz score. Since MyMathLabsPlus does not grade each step of a student's work, it is important that students write down their solving steps clearly on a notebook in order to identify any mistakes. Exams can be all written or a combination of written and technology application. Logical and easy to follow steps must be shown in order to obtain credit for each written problem. For the written part of each exam, a written practice test with answer key will be posted under Practice Exam on the left navigation button. The practice exam will not be collected or counted for grade but you are strongly encouraged to work on it because the actual written part of the exam will be similar. Component 3 (Weekend Class Meetings) You are required to attend 5 Saturday class meetings.
