About small business For example, more than 96% of businesses in Queensland are small business (Smart Small Business 2004). In a competitive arena such as this it is important that you plan and maximise your product and/or services to your best advantage. Small business operators need to be not only entrepreneurial, but have a great foundation of small business management skills. In today s environment you need to be innovative, you need to be flexible, technologically savvy, and strive to improve and change your services to reflect your consumers needs. We recommend you make yourself familiar with the great resources at www.smallbusiness.gov.au which has links to the small business resources of each State in Australia. Also a wonderful resource for growing your business is www.ausindustry.gov.au. This training is an investment in the potential success of your small business. The curriculum has been designed by people with hands on experience of the joys and challenges of being a small business owner. The qualification has been designed to be extremely practical, and we will encourage you to work on your own business, or your employer s, so that the learning has a personal or a company reward. The summation of the units of competency come together in a Business Portfolio, a useful document that can be used in your daily business activities. Not to be reproduced in any format.
