Wealth of experience, depth of expertise Meet some of the staff from our BA (Hons) Retail Management and Marketing programme. Our retail research and education is respected all over the world. Our students are taught the latest thinking in multi-channel retail. My own research focuses on the High Street, and we make opportunities for students to undertake their own research and assignments on problems facing traditional retail centres, as well as studying the latest channels of retail. Many of our students have gone on to roles in City Centre and Town Centre Management as well as more traditional roles with international retailers, like buyers and location analysts. Professor Cathy Parker Professor of Marketing and Retail Enterprise I am a Senior Lecturer in Retail Operations for MMU. I teach on the retail operations, strategic marketing and on the foundation degree programme with Tesco and George Asda employees. Before working at MMU, I have spent 10 years as a senior team manager with Tesco working in several superstores throughout the North West. This invaluable experience has afforded me the opportunity to share with students the essential skills, knowledge and employability skills essential for a rewarding career in retail management. Andrew Lewis Senior Lecturer in Retail Operations After working in the marketing research and business consultancy industry, I started my journey at MMU as a Postgraduate student in 2005. I am now a Senior Lecturer in International Marketing and involved in various academic projects in the UK and overseas. My own research and findings, which regularly inform my teaching, explore the retail evolution during and after periods of economic recession and the role of towncentre and high-street stakeholders in value creation. I also hold External Examiner and Adviser roles for several Universities in the UK and abroad. Dr Costas Theodoridis Senior Lecturer in International Marketing 12 mmu.ac.uk/retail
As Professor of Marketing at MMU, I supervise PhD students doing research in Fashion Marketing. My experience of consultancy, teaching and research spans three decades, five continents and has been supported by the British Fashion Council, UK Government, leading fashion retailers, brands and global manufacturers. In this time, I have trained and educated future fashion and retail industry leaders to develop ethical, sustainable and innovative fashion markets. I have authored the highly acclaimed Fashion Marketing book with Routledge, and prior to working at MMU, directed the Fashion Marketing Research Group at London College of Fashion, where I developed the first European Degree Programmes in Fashion Marketing to be endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Professor Tony Hines PhD Chair of Marketing. I joined the Department in 1992 and led the Retail Management Development Programme, which provided postgraduate courses for over 700 managers from major UK retailers, for 10 years. This provided valuable insights into the link between theory and practice. My current retail interests are in two broad areas. The first is how organisations operate in the US retail marketplace which is the world s largest and most diverse. This has involved interviews and visits to Wal-Mart, Macy s, and more specialist retailers in the convenience, pet food and thrift-shop sectors. My second is how the rapid increase of smartphones has radically altered consumer buying behaviour which presents both opportunities and challenges for retailers. David Leaver Senior Lecturer in Brand Management I joined MMU in 2011 as Senior Lecturer in Consumer Marketing and teach on a number of Marketing and Retail units. Prior to joining the Department I worked in senior management within Retail for nearly twenty years. As well as a spell as Head of Marketing at a leading UK retailer, experience was gained in the Finance, Strategy, Logistics and Buying departments. My background therefore helps me approach retailing issues from both a practical and theoretical viewpoint. I have a particular interest in branding and have published within leading journals, as well having spoken at various national and international conferences on the subject. Dr Griff Round Senior Lecturer I teach and lead the Consumer Behaviour unit, contributing original case material based on my academic and commercial experiences. I have strong ties with retail education, teaching retail managers from Tesco, Asda, Halfords, Booths, Co-op and the Post Office. I have taught marketing at a variety of institutions in countries such as Singapore. I also lead the Consumer Behaviour Research cluster and regularly present my work at international conferences.
