Office of Strategic Parish Planning Archdiocese of New York 1011 First Avenue New York, NY 10022 212-371-1000 Making All Things New Implementation Update #7 February 20, 2015 Dear Cluster Core Team Members & Facilitators: While pastoral planning is not about money, and we will always want to devote money to poorer parishes and schools that can t make it on their own, we can t keep doing it to the extent that we have been. Why? First, because we don t have the finances to annually give $40 million to support unneeded parishes; and secondly, best practices and years of pastoral experience tell us that churches which are 10 to 20 percent full do not usually lead to meaningful and uplifting liturgies where we are drawn to give praise and thanks to our loving God. And, apostolates and ministries of education, service, and charity, the main way we witness to the world, cannot flourish where there are not significant membership and resources to support them so, some critical pastoral needs are not being met. Timothy Cardinal Dolan Pastoral Letter on Making All Things New If you have unanswered questions about the implementation process for your cluster, please contact your Reid Group consultant (names and contact information below). During this implementation phase of Making All Things New, parish and cluster implementation teams will develop action plans, present progress reports to the Archdiocesan Advisory Group and receive responses from them, all in order to continue to strengthen parish life and help more Catholic people grow in their faith. Other information: 1. The Pastoral Transition Manual for all parishes involved in implementation of Cardinal Dolan s decisions in Making All Things New was distributed at the training sessions for cluster teams. If you did not receive a copy, please contact Maryteresa McKenna at Maryteresa.McKenna@archny.org. 2. Pastors and cluster chairs of the send back parishes will present their cluster responses to the Archdiocesan Advisory Group March 9 or 10 at Maryknoll in Ossining, New York. 5.
