The registration can be found in this bulletin or online. With the sun came a very busy spring for this office, hosting the Pastoral Ministry Conference, completing our new advanced retreat, plus our regular online and parish based classes. The Pastoral Ministry Conference s topic was Forming Family Faith; Parish Vision of Practice for Being a Family of Families. Tom East from the Center for Ministry Development was our keynote speaker and our new Director of Marriage and Family Life, Jason Kidd, was our master of ceremonies. It was a day to discover strategies to engage our families and deepen their faith. It was lovely to see many of our current and past students in the audience. The conference was a resounding success with 300 people in attendance. Our newly designed Called to Serve advanced retreat was a great accomplishment. Lead by Lynda Olsen, the retreat focused on the spiritual dimension of our lay ministry standards. The retreat used spiritual direction and Lectio Divina to guide us through the weekend. Other retreat leaders included Terry Christenson, Br. Cyril Drnjevic, Fr. Pius X Harding, and the liturgy team of Dawn and Dave Bentz. We had a fabulous group of attendees and leaders which made this experience quite unique and beautiful. Please think of attending our spring retreat next year, and join this wonderful experience. 3 New Marriage & Family Life Director: Jason Kidd My name is Jason Kidd and I am the new Director of Marriage and Family Life office here in western Oregon for the Archdiocese of Portland. My Faith and Family are what I am most passionate about in life, so it is a good fit. I am eager to meet all of you and gather insight on where the office can support your parishes serving marriage and families. Having worked in youth and young adult ministry for 13 years at 3 parishes in 2 states, I know that the real ministry happens on the parish level. You all are in the trenches sharing the Gospel and building the Kingdom. I have been married 11 years to my amazing wife Sarah and we have been blessed with two girls and two boys under the age of 9. We are like a circus, making messes and lots of noise, but bring smiles to people s faces. As we all know marriage and family are not only instrumental to the New Evangelization, but also to a healthy society. I look forward to teaming up with you in the future as we follow Pope Francis call to approach the New Evangelization in a new way, with bold and creative ideas so that we can be fruitful with the younger generations. 3

Matt Cato is the Director of the Office of Life, Justice & Peace for the Archdiocese of Portland where he represents Archbishop Sample on matters of Catholic social teaching and supervises the programs of the office: the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, JustFaith, Parish Social Ministry (Respect Life and Peace and Justice Ministries), and Faithful Citizenship. The primary responsibilities of the Office are educating all Catholics on Catholic social teaching; administering the Catholic Campaign for Human Development; and providing guidance and resources to pastors, parishes and parishioners. 5 Heather Wycoff Ministry Formation students looking for opportunities to expand minds and hearts can check out two online programs that offer webinars and classes: Loyola Institute for Ministry and University of Notre Dame STEP program. Courses consist of basic theology, as well as, area specific ministry classes and seminars. Some classes may even be a substitution for classes in our program, please check with the Ministry Office before registering if you would like credit in our program. Loyola Institute for Ministry consist of free monthly webinars throughout the year. The University of Notre Dame STEP program offers theology classes and area specific ministry classes. Study week is coming up and some of you are near completion of your certificates. Please send us an if you would like to receive your certificate during study week. All class work needs to be completed by June 30, 2015 to receive your certificate in August. This office has had a very busy year and I do not want anyone to slip between the cracks.
