o THE NATIONAL PARK OF CILENTO The Park includes 80 municipalities and covers 181.048 hectares of protected land, of inestimable value, is a classic example of 'harmonious integration between the work of man and the natural environment of the Mediterranean, from the Paleolithic to the present day. The Coastal Zone is typically Mediterranean, with a succession of bays: small sandy beaches or steep cliffs and headlands with defense Normanno-Aragonesi towers. Numerous medieval settlements preserve an artistic heritage of immense value: chapels, churches, palaces, castles and cottages are set in naturalistic uncontaminated settings. The archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia, the Certosa di Padula, are part of the sites included in UNESCO S world Heritage' sites.
