GEOGRAPHY MY CITY Macomer lies on the ledges of a basaltic plateau at about 600 mt osl, on the main communication way between the North and the South of the island. It has a population of 11,117 inhabitants.
PREHISTORY The territory of Macomer has a high density of prehistorical buildings. Between the city and the nearby park of Mount S. Antonio, you can see the bethels of Tamuli. They depict the essential principles, male and female, which are the root of life in accordance to an ancient, naturalistic religion. On a hill, dominated by the nuraghe Ruju, there are the domus the janas- literally houses of the fairy-witches - of Filigosa, tombs of the mid Neolithic age (4,000-3,000 bc).
PREHISTORY The nuraghe Santa Barbara is perhaps one of the most beautiful examples of nuragic architecture. The nuraghi represent the maximum expression of the bronze age culture, Nuraghe Santa Barbara The nuraghi are considered the symbolmonuments of Sardinian Prehistory, they were probably built as fortifications to protect the villages of shepherds- peasant. Nuraghe Ruju
HISTORY During the Punic age Macomer was called Macom, that means place, from which the name Macomer derives. While during the Roman period it was known with the name of Macopsissa. The church of Santa Sabina witnesses the entrance into history of the island. It is one of the most ancient Christian churches in Sardinia, built with stones coming from the nearby nuraghe, to mark the passage from prehistory to history.
HISTORY During the middle ages in Macomer there was a castle, of which today there is no evidence. The church of Saint Pantaleo, in the city, is an example of Aragonese- Gothic architecture. It was built between 1500 and 1600 ad.
The most tasteful is the porcetto (pork meat) a delicious speciality for every mouth; Culurgiones (kind of traditional pasta) are the typical food at festivities; Sweets: papassini, chiacchiere and zeppole, typical at carnival time and the seadas, perfect for a special lunch.
TRADITIONS In Macomer you can visit the Museum of ancient arts, where interesting tools, once used by shepherds and peasants, are exposed. The photo on the right shows a part of the traditional costume of Macomer. On the left the entrance door of the Museum.
MY SCHOOL The Amaldi is a vocational school. It has four courses related to the following areas: electricity; electronics; mechanics; fashion. The school has a number of laboratories: computer laboratories, mechanical, electrical and electronic workshops, design and sewing laboratory.
Our school in Macomer acts in the territorial area for the improvement and modernisation of the local system by introducing innovating solutions to the Energy and the Environment fields...

Almost the 90% of the world energy comes from fossil fuels We must Re-think our use of energy
There cannot be a more precious gift than LIFE... Save it!
THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WE CAN DO...
... WE CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!
HUMAN energy is needed to LOVE, to RESPECT and TO SAVE the planet...
Our nature can help us to produce ENERGY
SUN WIND WATER...
Renewable Re - NEW - a - ble Able to be NEW again Some natural energy sources can be used again and quickly.
A big step ahead is done by using RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES
Renewable energy sources include solar energy, biomass, geothermal energy, hydropower and wind energy. They are called renewable energy sources because they are replenished in a short time. They offer clean alternatives to fossil fuels. They produce little or no pollution or greenhouse gases, and they will never run out. Day after day the sun shines, the wind blows, and the rivers flow.
our most powerful source of energy.
Most forms of renewable energy come either directly or indirectly from the sun.
Heat from the sun causes the wind to blow, contributes to the growth of trees and other plants that are used for biomass energy.
SUN INFLUENCES SEA LEVEL AND WAVES MOTION
The sun has produced energy for billions of years.
We use solar Energy to relax and enjoy our land full of wonderful beaches, sunsets and breathless landscapes to admire!!!

Sunlight, or solar energy, is used for heating, lighting and cooling homes and other buildings, generating electricity, water heating and a variety of industrial processes
it can be possible by the help of SOLAR PANELS

... studying ways to save Energy by using the sunlight. Here an example of photovoltaic panel working with Solar power
Being involved with Energy matters, and studying them as school subjects, our students have carried out projects dealing with Solar energy and Photovoltaic systems, they are able to use equipement provided by school labs and to work actively on the engines.
In the last years also Clill projects, dealing with solar energy and PV systems, have been carried out during the lessons!

Solar Photovoltaic: Photovoltaic Cells Convert Sunlight into Electricity.
Some advantages of photovoltaic systems are: 1.Conversion from sunlight to electricity is direct, so that bulky mechanical generator systems are unnecessary. 2.PV arrays can be installed quickly and in any size.

There are different specialized companies and enterprising in Sardinia, applying to renewable energy projects and providing the diffusion of solar plants all over the Island which are guaranteed for many years.
Sardinia Region in the Renewable Energy promotion and the Island Energetic Autonomy contests, has projected and realized a Solar Thermodynamic Plant in Ottana, a small village near Macomer.
