CONNECTING TO WIRELESS NETWORK TAFE WESTERN CONNECTING TO WIRELESS NETWORK iphone/ipod Touch, ipad, Internet Explorer, Firefox

TAFE Western provides wireless access for staff and students via the TAFE-Guest wireless service. This provides internet access only access to file shares and printers is not available. This service limited to certain areas of the campus with no guarantee of availability. Access to the Internet is via the NSW Department of Education & Training service. This is filtered and requires authentication. A valid DET username and password is required for access. No assistance can be provided or responsibility taken with device configuration. 2 Connecting to Wireless Network 5 February 2014 v1

A. IPHONE/IPOD TOUCH At the home screen, select Settings. 1. Select Wi-Fi. 4. In the URL box enter http://pac.tafensw. edu.au/tafe/western.pac and hit return. 5. Return to the home screen and open Safari. Attempt to access a website. 6. You should be requested to enter your DET username and password. 2. Select the TAFE-Guest network. 7. Once authenticated you will be able access the Internet. 3. Once in the screen for TAFE-Guest, scroll down and select HTTP Proxy Auto. 3 Connecting to Wireless Network 5 February 2014 v1

B. IPAD 1. At the home screen, select Settings. 2. In left hand menu select Wi-Fi. 3. On right hand side toggle Wi-fi switch to On. 4. Select the TAFE-Guest network. 5. Once in the screen for TAFE-Guest, select HTTP Proxy Auto. 8. Once authenticated you will be able access the Internet. 9. Return to the home screen and open Safari. Attempt to access a website. 6. In the URL box enter http://pac.tafensw. edu.au/tafe/western.pac 7. You should be requested to enter your DET username and password. 4 Connecting to Wireless Network 5 February 2014 v1

C. INTERNET EXPLORER 1. Enable the Wireless network card on your laptop and wait for a few seconds for Windows to scan for available wireless networks. 2. Windows will display the available networks; select the TAFE-Guest network. external website. You should receive a popup box requesting your DET username and password as you would on a classroom or library PC when web browsing. Enter your DET username and password and continue to your website. 3. Click the Connect button to have your computer connect to the wireless network. 4. Your laptop will now be connected to the wireless network. 8. If you do not receive the pop-up box requesting your DET username and password, please ensure your Internet Explorer has been set to Automatically Detect Settings (Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings). 5. The wireless network shows Connected and displays the signal strength. 6. Windows may advise that this is an unsecured wireless network; click Continue. 7. To use the Internet, open the web browser. Attempt to connect to the DET Portal (http://portal.det.nsw.edu.au) or another 9. configuration and set the HTTP Proxy to proxy.det.nsw.edu.au and the Port to 8080 as per the screenshot. 11. Now restart your browser (after closing all instances of it) and connect to the DET Portal or other external website. 12.
