Thursday is yearbook picture day in the dance room. On Friday and Saturday the Avon Marching Black & Gold performed at the Bands Of America Indianapolis Regionals. They placed second in their class after prelims on Saturday. They went on to perform in finals on Saturday evening, competing with 15 other top bands from around the mid west. The Avon Marching Black & Gold were announced as the BOA Indy Regional Champions at 11:30 Saturday night. Congratulations to all the students on their awesome show. Reminder for those students who are participating in a fall activity or sport. PE waivers will be due at the conclusion of your season. Remember to pick up a waiver from the guidance office or print one from the high school website. It's been a wild fall break run through the IHSAA tournament for the #9 ranked boys' cross country team! The boys finished a close second in the Sectional meet on October 11 before winning their first ever Regional title at Ben Davis on October 18. The boys then punched their first ever ticket to the IHSAA State Finals on October 25 with a third place finish in the Semi-State meet! The boys will take a 141-6 record into the IHSAA State Championships on Saturday, November 1 in Terre Haute among Indiana's best distance runners. The boys' race begins at 1:45 p.m., right after the girls' race at 1:00. Avon Volleyball won their 14th sectional in a row on Saturday, defeating three teams over fall break. Avon first defeated Terre Haute North 25-13, 25-9, 25-19. Avon was led by freshman Jael Johnsons 8 kills, freshman Darian Goins 28 assists, and 3 aces by Brooke Peters. Avon was also led by 4 people with at least 5 digs including Kennedy Wilson, Brooke PEters, Jordyn Grandolfo, and Kaley Keating. Avon then avenged a county loss to Brownsburg in the semifinals with a 26-24, 25-23, 25-19 win, which included a comeback from 21-24 in the first set. Avon was led by 22 kills by Beth Prince, 4 blocks by Hannah Eiler, 12 digs by Kennedy Wilson, and 38 assists by Darian Goins. In the Championship match, Avon defeated Plainfield 25-14, 25-22, 12-25, 25-9. Avon was led by 16 kills by Beth Prince, 10 kills by Calle Weddle, 12 kills by Brooke Peters, and 9 kills by Jael Johnson. The offense was led by 42 assists by Darian Goins and Brooke Peters led the defense with 17 digs. Avon next plays for the regional championship on Tuesday evening at 7 PM against Perry Meridian at the Orena! Please come and pack the house as we battle the Falcons. The #2 ranked Avon Girls Cross Country Team placed 2nd to #1 ranked Carmel at Saturday's Carmel Semi-State, advancing the Orioles to their 4th consecutive IHSAA State Championship meet. Three Avon runners finished All Semi-State: Taylor Nicholson in 2nd, Malyka Abramson in 6th and Kelsie Mothersead in 18th. Kate Bernicke placed 23rd & Courtney Kerr finished 36th to round out the scorers, while Lauren
Heeger and Alissa Lustgarten placed 53rd and 93rd, respectively. The Orioles will race in the IHSAA State Championship on Saturday, November 1st at 1:00 pm in Terre Haute.
