Different custom properties re used for different provisioning methods, types of mchines, nd mchine options. Custom properties cn e used s descried in the following exmples: Specify prticulr type of guest OS, for instnce Windows 7 64-it Enle WIM-sed provisioning, in which Windows Imging File Formt (WIM) imge of reference mchine is used to provision new mchines Customize the ehvior of Remote Desktop Protocol when connecting to mchine Register virtul mchine with XenDesktop Desktop Delivery Controller (DDC) server Customize virtul mchine s system specifictions, such s dding multiple hrd disk drives Customize the guest OS for mchine, for instnce, y including specified users in selected locl groups Enle clenup of the Active Directory ccount of mchine fter it is destroyed Specifying the chrcteristics of the mchines to e provisioned is generlly done y dding properties to lueprints nd uild profiles. Any property specified in lueprint overrides the sme property specified in the incorported uild profile. This enles lueprint to use most of the properties in profile while differing from the profile in some limited wy. For more informtion, see Order of Precedence for Custom Properties, on pge 8. For exmple, lueprint tht incorportes stndrd developer worksttion profile might override the US English settings in the profile with UK English settings. On the other hnd, if no pproprite profile is ville ll the needed properties cn e specified in the lueprint itself. This rrngement ensures tht the numer nd complexity of lueprints remin mngele. At new mchine request time, vcloud Automtion Center hs not yet llocted reservtion nd the compute resource nd endpoint re unknown s well. Therefore, only custom properties from uild profile, lueprint nd usiness group re reconciled nd presented when the mchine is requested. Order of Precedence for Custom Properties When the sme property exists in more thn one source, specific order is followed when pplying properties to the mchine. A custom property is mrked s runtime if the following conditions exist: The property is mrked s Prompt User, which specifies tht the user must supply vlue for it when requesting mchine. This requires tht the mchine requestor customize individul chrcteristics of ech mchine, or gives them the option of doing so when defult vlue is provided for the required property. A usiness group mnger is requesting mchine nd the property ppers in the custom properties list on the Properties t of the Confirm Mchine Request pge. Custom properties in reservtions nd usiness groups my e pplied to mny mchines so they should e used crefully. Their use is typiclly limited to purposes relted to their sources, such s resource mngement, line of usiness ccounting, nd so on. Specifying the chrcteristics of the mchine to e provisioned is generlly done y dding properties to lueprints nd uild profiles. Ech lueprint of ny type cn optionlly incorporte one or more uild profiles nd therey inherit the custom properties in those profiles. Build profiles re especilly useful for pplying common sets of properties for specific purposes to wide rnge of lueprints. For exmple, your site might wnt to dd second disk to, customize Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol ehvior for, nd enle Active Directory clenup for wide vriety of mchines. Ech reservtion is for one usiness group only, ut usiness group cn hve multiple reservtions on single compute resource, or multiple reservtions on compute resources of different types. In ddition to the shre of fric resources llocted to the usiness group, reservtion cn define policies, priorities, nd quots tht determine mchine plcement. Virtul Reservtion Selection When memer of usiness group requests virtul mchine, resources must e llocted on one of the group's reservtions to provision the mchine. The reservtion on which mchine is provisioned must stisfy the following criteri: The reservtion must e of the sme pltform type s the lueprint from which the mchine ws requested. A generic virtul lueprint cn e provisioned on ny type of virtul reservtion. The reservtion must e enled. The compute resource must e ccessile nd not in mintennce mode. For exmple, if reservtion hs quot of 50, nd 40 mchines hve een provisioned ut only 20 of them re powered on, the reservtion s quot is 40 percent llocted, not 80 percent. The reservtion must hve sufficient unllocted memory nd storge resources to provision the mchine. When virtul reservtion s mchine quot, memory, or storge is fully llocted, no further virtul mchines cn e provisioned from it. Resources my e reserved eyond the physicl cpcity of virtuliztion compute resource (overcommitted), ut when the physicl cpcity of compute resource is 100% llocted, no further mchines cn e provisioned on ny reservtions with tht compute resource until the resources re reclimed. If the lueprint hs specific network settings, the reservtion must hve the sme networks. If the lueprint or reservtion specifies network profile for sttic IP ddress ssignment, n IP ddress must e ville to ssign to the new mchine. If the lueprint or request specifies loction, the compute resource must e ssocited with tht loction. If the vlue of the custom property VRM.Dtcenter.Policy is Exct nd there is no reservtion for compute resource ssocited with tht loction tht stisfies ll the other criteri, then provisioning fils. If the vlue of VRM.Dtcenter.Policy is NotExct nd there is no reservtion for compute resource ssocited with tht loction tht stisfies ll the other criteri, provisioning cn proceed on nother reservtion regrdless of loction. This option is the defult. If the lueprint or request specifies the custom property VirtulMchine.Host.TpmEnled, trusted hrdwre must e instlled on the compute resource for the reservtion. If the lueprint specifies reservtion policy, the reservtion must elong to tht reservtion policy. Reservtion policies re wy to gurntee tht the selected reservtion stisfies ny dditionl requirements for provisioning mchines from specific lueprint. For exmple, you cn use reservtion policies to limit provisioning to compute resources with specific templte for cloning. If no reservtion is ville tht meets ll of the selection criteri, provisioning fils. If multiple reservtions meet ll of the criteri, the reservtion from which to provision requested mchine is determined y the following logic: Reservtions with higher priority re selected over reservtions with lower priority. If multiple reservtions hve the sme priority, the reservtion with the lowest percentge of its mchine quot llocted is selected. If multiple reservtions hve the sme priority nd quot usge, mchines re distriuted mong reservtions in round-roin fshion.
