COSMETOLOGY NWCC OXFORD CENTER This program is approved by the Cosmetology Board of the State of Mississippi. A student who completes this course is issued a certificate which entitles that person to take the State Board Examination to become a licensed cosmetologist in the State of Mississippi. The student is trained to become proficient in hair styling, manicuring pedicuring, facials, scalp treatment, and many other phases of beauty culture. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age. 2. Admission to the college (this does not guarantee admission into the Cosmetology Program). 3. Special admission requirements include: limited enrollment, specific program applications, and other stipulations. 4. Applicants must be a high school graduate (diploma), or have passed the GED test. 5. No ACT score is required for admittance; however, if the student should change majors to a technical or academic program, the ACT must be taken and scores submitted to the Registrar. Cosmetology Application Information Dear Prospective Student, Thank you for your interest in the Northwest Mississippi Community College Cosmetology Program located at Senatobia, Ashland, or Oxford. The Cosmetology Program accepts applications through April 30 each year for the fall semester. The Cosmetology Program is a twelve month course, which begins each August. A campuswide schedule is followed with regard to holidays, semester registration and breaks. You must do the following: Submit Program Application to the Cosmetology Department AND Submit Official G.E.D. or high school transcript. Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Score will be submitted to the Cosmetology Department by the Coordinator. Have a Northwest application on file with the Registrar s Office, complete with all supporting documentation, such as transcripts. After these requirements are met, you will be considered by the date that your information was received. Minimum requirements and expectation: You must be 18 years of age or older. You must be able to perform all requirements and meet State Board Standards. Follow the Cosmetology rules and regulations, outlined in the Cosmetology handbook. Be dedicated to completing the course of study. Maintain strong attendance. Take and pass the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology examination.
