Tool Registration and Software Authorization Tool Registration Note: All screen displays shown in this document are examples only. Your display will vary from these. A one-time registration is required at the initial start up of a new scan tool or software update. Wait for the End User License Agreement (EULA) screen to appear. 3. Read and understand the terms of the EULA, then select I accept the terms of the End User License Agreement and select Continue. 4. A Tool Registration screen displays. At the Authorization Code Entry screen, enter the authorization code you received by web, phone or fax, and select Continue. Note: If Demo Mode is selected, the tool will not communicate to a vehicle. Software Update Check Software updates may be available for your scan tool. A new feature of System 5.0 is the ability to check on and make available those software updates for you. 1. From the Application Manager screen, select Update Check and Revision Levels. to send information by fax to (USA) 800-283- 8665. You will receive an authorization code by telephone or 2. Software Update(s) If updating your scan tool with Smart Cards, refer to document 555469 for instructions. If updating your scan tool with Security Cards, follow the steps outlined below. An Update Check screen appears. For certain scan tools, a Security Card is supplied with a security code printed on it for each software application purchased. Use this code and the scan tool serial number (from the Update Check screen) to obtain an authorization code for the software application by internet, fax, or telephone. Enter that authorization code into the scan tool to authorize your software application. Connect a PC to the internet web site www.spxregistration.com, select Check For Updates, and follow the instructions provided. If it finds software update(s) are available, record the authorization code(s) provided. Note: If internet access is not possible, an 2 1. Obtain an Authorization Code(s) After locating the scan tool serial number, use the following steps to obtain an authorization code for a scan tool software application. a. Locate the security code on the Security Card that you received when purchasing the software application. Back of Card b. You ll need to provide the scan tool serial number, name and address information, and the software application security code. Record the authorization code that is provided. Repeat this procedure for each application you need to authorize.

After obtaining an authorization code for a scan tool software application, use the following steps to enter the code into the scan tool to authorize the application. Note: Each authorization code is specific to one scan tool and one application and will not work on any other tool or any other application. a. Display the Application Manager screen on the scan tool. 3. Use the Authorization Code Entry screen to enter the authorization code as follows: a. Use the Up and Down Direction (arrow) keys to select a letter of the alphabet or a number from 0 to 9. b. Press the Right Direction key to move to the next box. If needed, use the Left Direction key to move backwards. c. Repeat a and b until the code is entered. Note: To optionally clear all the boxes, press the Clear function key. Note: To optionally use the keyboard, press the keyboard function key and use the following steps. Use the keyboard as follows: Use the Direction keys to select a letter or number and press the ENTER key to move to the next box. To move backward, go to 0 and press the Left Direction key to get to the BS (backspace) key. To optionally clear all the boxes, press the Clear function key. To optionally return to the normal display, press the No Keyboard function key. 3
d. When finished entering the authorization code, press the Continue function key. This displays the first Vehicle Identification screen. 4. Press the EXIT key to return to the Application Manager screen. 5. Turn the scan tool off, then turn it back on to complete the authorization. 6. Repeat the authorization code entry steps for each software application you need to authorize. Revision Levels To view the latest revision levels information for all the software on a tool, select Revisions. 4
