M A R C H 2 0 1 4 L S U O N L I N E LSU ONLINE Sloan-C Certificate Completion Congratulations to the following LSU Online faculty who have successfully completed the Sloan-C Certification. The certificate program requires a 9 week Sloan-C course plus the completion of three individual Sloan-C workshops. Brian Bourke (Assistant Professor, School of Education) Teaching online requires intentionality and preparation that can be forgotten when teaching face to face, particularly after getting into a rhythm with courses. I found a lot of focus in Sloan-C on focusing on who the students are and the needs they bring with them to the course. I also gained a lot of exposure to a variety of online tools to aid in course development, content curation, content presentation, and student interaction. I recommend the Sloan-C Certificate in Online Teaching to anyone who is serious about fully meeting the needs of students in online learning environments. Isa Nahmens (Assistant Professor, Construction Management) I had a great experience with the Sloan-C courses. This certificate equipped me with the knowledge and skills need to excel in my online teaching. Even though the courses were self-paced, the mentors do give you the guidance you need to be effective with your own online course. Marwa Hassan (Graduate Coordinator and Associate Professor, Construction Management) The Sloan-C certificate program opened my eyes on how teaching in a virtual environment differs from teaching F2F (face-to-face). In understanding these differences, I learned that the role of the instructor changes from delivering the subject matter to the students to facilitating the learning process. It also emphasizes the importance of communication and teaches you methods of how to engage the virtual audience. Finally, it teaches you methods for delivering online teaching with high quality to ensure program success and growth.
