We invite you, your family remembers, and your friends to take advantage of the many outstanding programs that are offered by the college. Whether you are interested in traditional face-to-face classes or your are interested in online classes, Galveston College has the classes to meet your needs and help you prepare for the future. The faculty and staff at Galveston College are committed to your success. Our tuition and feeds are affordable and we continue to offer recent local high school, home schooled and GED graduate tuition assistance through our Universal Access Program. In addition, our Student Success Center and our Advising and Counseling Center are available to you in order to help meet your educational goals. We look forward to having you join us. W. 7 Campus Directions Directions to Galveston College Traveling south on I-45, take 61st Street exit and turn right at stop light. Travel approximately one mile to Seawall Blvd. Turn left on to Seawall. Proceed down Seawall to 39th Street. (Gaido's Restaurant is at corner of 39th and Seawall). Turn left on 39th and travel north to Avenue Q. Turn left at 39th and Avenue Q and proceed one block to Main Campus. Main Campus parking is available on Avenue Q, Avenue R and satellite parking at 39th and Avenue Q. Directions to Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center Traveling south on I-45 Take Exit 1B toward 71st St. Merge onto frontage road/broadway St. and travel approximately five blocks to the first stop sign. At the stop sign, turn left onto 71st St. Take the first left onto frontage road/broadway St. and continue on the frontage road for approximately five blocks to the Applied Technology Center campus. Directions to Applied Technology Center from Main Campus Travel west on Avenue Q toward 45 th St. Turn right at 45 th St. and proceed to the stop light on Broadway. Turn left onto Broadway and travel approximately one mile. Continue onto I-45 North to Exit 1C. 9 On Line New Student Orientation Whitecaps Student Portal On line New Student Orientation can be found on the Galveston College homepage at under the Welcome Student section. Click on the Online New Student Orientation link (directed to another page to login) It can also be found at the top of the homepage e-learning login using the instructions below Username GC0XXXXXX ( your student ID#) Password XX/XX/XX (2digit;month,day,year) 1.click on Course top tab 2. complete Orientation 9

10 Your Whitecaps Student Portal... The Whitecaps Portal is the doorway to beginning your journey as a Galveston College Student. This is where all of your student information is housed. You will be able to ; Search & Register for Classes View Your Degree Audit View Your Grades Activate Your Whitecaps Account View Your Financial Aid Status View Your Billing Statement & Make a Payment Electronically There are many more features available to you within the portal, please login and take some time to look around. The Whitecaps Portal can be accessed from your own device at * Under the Student Services link you will find all of the resources available to you here at Galveston College. 10

11 Logging In... Login to your whitecaps as soon as possible! This is how you will communicate and receive messages from Galveston College * see page 17 for screenshots to help you find and activate your 11

12 The following instructions are provided to assist you with viewing &/ or printing your personal online degree audit: ( requirements for the major you choose) 1.Go to 2.Click on Whitecaps Portal. 3.Enter your GC User ID (i.e. GC0xxxxxx) and Password (i.e. MMDDYY). 4.Under QuickLinks, select View My Degree Audit. 5.Choose your currently active Program of Study. (This should be the first option listed.) 6.Click Submit. 7.Your Degree Audit should then appear! Thinking About Changing Programs? The following instructions are provided to assist you with viewing a Proposed Degree Audit. (This will allow you to see what courses will apply to your new program of study and those that will not be applicable.) 1.Go to 2.Click on Whitecaps Portal. 3.Enter your GC User ID (i.e. GC0xxxxxx) and Password (i.e. MMDDYY) 4.Under QuickLinks, select View My Degree Audit. 5.Choose a Program of Study from the scroll down menu, W hat If I Changed My Program of Study. 6.Click Submit 7.Choose A Catalog Year. (Please select the most recent catalog yr. for accuracy.) 8.Click Submit. Your Proposed Degree Audit should appear 12

13 Important Bacterial Meningitis Notice Pursuant to the Jamie Schanbaum and Nicolis Williams Act, all entering students to an institution of higher education or private or independent institution after January 1, 2012 MUST show evidence of being immunized against bacterial meningitis (Texas Education Code ) Entering student is defined as: a) A new student a first-time student in an institution of higher education, or the private or independent institution of higher educations, including a student who transfers to the institution from another institution or b) A student who previously attended an institution of higher education before January 1, 2012 and is enrolling in the same or another institution following a break in enrollment of at least of fall or spring semester. The bill exempts from the immunization a student who is enrolled only in online or other long distance education courses or who is 22 years of age or older. Other exemptions include: a) An affidavit from the physician stating that obtaining the vaccination would be injurious to the health or well-being of the student b) An affidavit notarized by the student that he/she declines the vaccination for reason of conscience, that includes religious beliefs. Evident of the vaccination must be during the five years preceding and at least 10 days prior to the first day of the semester session in which the student plans to enroll. How to provide evidence of vaccination to Galveston College Office of Admissions: Submit a signed official notification from your physician indicating the month, day, and year the vaccination was administered, or Submit an official immunization record generated from a state or local health authority, or Submit a notarized affidavit that the student declines the vaccinations for reasons of conscience. Proof of your vaccination must be submitted to the Office of Admissions (M-160) in person, via adm@gc.edu or via fax ( ) 13

16 Closings/Class Cancellation Guide for Students Emergency Announcements: In any emergency situations such as a hurricane or flooding, students and employees are to follow these directions: If dismissal or cancellation of activities occurs during the time classes are in session, the announcement will be made on the campus as appropriate. All emergency announcements of cancellations or reopening of the College may be accessed by calling the College s Emergency Evacuation Status phone number at to receive a message update The decision to dismiss classes and to reopen Galveston College will rest with the President. The following radio and TV stations may broadcast information regarding local conditions and advisability of returning to the area after a hurricane or other emergency. Connect-ED provides the technology to notify students, faculty and staff in the event of school closings or emergencies within a matter of minutes via , phone messages, and/or text messages. For the system to serve and protect the campus, all contact information (phone numbers and addresses) must be current. To update and add phone numbers to your personal file, log-in to your Campus Online account, select the My Info Tab, run the Update Personal Info program, and update your address and phone number(s).
