CITATION ON ENGR. MUSTAFA BALARABE SHEHU Early Life and Studies Mustafa Balarabe Shehu was born on 12 th April 1963 to a Veterinary Officer Alhaji Shehu Salihu and Hajiya Rakiya, both of blessed memory. He had his primary education in Jahun, Sumaila and finally Kwalli Primary School in Kano which he finished in 1975. His father died when he was 12 years old and thus starting to face the challenges of life from that tender age. After finishing his primary education, he got admitted into the prestigious Government College Kaduna in September 1975 under the Kano State Government scholarship. On finishing the secondary school he was admitted into the School of Basic Studies, of the Ahmadu Bello University in 1980. Having finished the one year course successfully, he was then absorbed in the same University to study Electrical Engineering degree which he completed successfully in 1985. Working Career Engr. M. B. Shehu has over 25 years of working experience which started with his assignment as Youths Corper at the Electrical Inspectorate Division, Federal Ministry of Mines & Power, with office in Enugu. The service year was very exciting to the young Shehu as that was his first time of being to the southern part of the country. He was very much liked by his boss and all the staff in the office because he was very dedicated to his job and was friendly to all. He was exposed to various types of precommissioning tests on electrical schemes and networks. The projects he participated on, includes but are not limited to the following: Inspection and tests on 11 x 50KVA, 11/.415KV distribution transformers for Eleme town in Rivers State. Inspection and tests on the 2 x 5MVA, 11/33KV generator transformers at Imiringi, Rivers State. Tests and inspection of 33/.415KV distribution substations and 33KV lines for Awgu Ndeaboh, ITC, Ndeaboh TDN, Nenwe Nomeh ITC, Nomeh TDN, Awgu, Adazi, Nenwe and Ngbowo TDN s under the Anambra State Rural Electrification scheme. By October 1986, Engr. Shehu was employed as Pupil Electrical Engineer with the Lagos Thermal Station Egbin, a 6x220MW gas turbine generating station for the National Electric Power Authority. He was assigned to the switchgear and transformer section whose responsibilities includes: Maintenance (scheduled and breakdown) on 27OMVA, 16/330KV generator transformer, 150MVA, 330/132/33KV interbus transformers at the switchyard

Maintenance of 330KV/132KV switchyard, which includes the SF6 circuit breakers, control panels and instrument transformers Maintenance on 6.6KV metal-clad indoor switchgears which comprise over 100 circuit breakers together with their associated protective relays. He was assigned the responsibility of preparing maintenance schedule and performing tests and checks on protective relays. In April 1986 he was appointed as Senior Electrical Engineer by the Kano State Rural Electricity Board. He was in charge of the Construction Department. He remained with that Organisation rising from his initial position up to the post of Assistant Director in 1998. His responsibilities within this period includes but are not limited to the following: Heading the Electrical Engineering Department. Preparation bill of engineering measurements and evaluation Co-ordination and supervision of all various sites with the State. Monitoring the progress of all the projects. Maintenance works on 33KV, 11KV and 415 volts transmission and distribution lines. Execution of Rural Electrification projects form the stages of survey, pegging, pole erection, fittings, stringing and substation works. Typical projects executed include Rijiar Zaki, Gada, Dansure, Ajumawa, Danzaki, Auyo, Zareku, Takalafiya, Gwarmai, Bebeji ITC, Tofa Doka ltc, Yargaya, Ajingi, Gwarmai, Dungurawa, Chedi and Bagadawa electrification networks. His unsatiable desire to face bigger challenges and to practice widely in the field of electrical engineering made him to resign voluntarily from the civil service in 1998 to start an engineering practice called Amal Engineering Services Limited. The firm was registered in 1994 but started operation in 1997. He served as Managing Director of this Company from inception up to 2011 when the Corporate Affairs Commission directed that the name be changed because of another company with similar name that registered earlier, the Company name then changed to MBS Engineering Ltd while maintaining the same RC. number and date of registration. Engr. Shehu is now the Chairman/CEO in the company to enable the growth of other Directors and engineers in the Company. The Company offer services in the following fields of engineering: Sustainable mechanical and electrical services for buildings, institutional and industrial complexes Electricity generation, tranmmission and distribution Rural Electrification schemes Renewable energy technology Air-conditioning Water supply, treatment, storage and distribution schemes Sewage treatment plants

The firm has a wide range of Clients from Federal Government Ministries/ Departments, State Government Ministries/Departments to private Sector organisations. He has travelled to all the States of the Federation and has visited many countries some of which are: Ghana, Egypt, Togo, Sierra Leone, South Africa, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Geneva, United States of America, Brazil, Argentina, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Dubai and Kuwait.

Personal Life Engr. M.B. Shehu is a devoted muslim and maintains a peaceful home with two wives and nine children (six boys and three girls). His first son is about finishing his Masters degree in Software Engineering at the University of Technology, Malaysia, his second son is studying Electrical Engineering at the Ahmadu Bello University, 300 level while his third son is studying Sciences in his final year Secondary School. He is the College Headboy, Imam and President of Junior Engineers, Technologist and Scientists, JETS.
