INTRODUCTION The MaricopaNursing/Northern Arizona University (NAU) Concurrent Enrollment Associate Degree/Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program is designed for qualified associate degree nursing students who are interested in earning their Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree while pursuing their associate s degree in nursing. The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) allows students to pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in nursing while providing an affordable course of study that, followed in sequence, enables students to complete their BSN degree in one semester after graduating with their AAS degree. Students enrolled in the CEP will follow the traditional course of study for all MaricopaNursing students pursuing their AAS degree in nursing, but at the same time they will also be enrolled in required NAU nursing courses. Because NAU courses are taken online or in hybrid format, all courses will be offered in the greater Phoenix area. Upon completion of the MaricopaNursing program, graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination. Following completion of the CEP course of study at a MaricopaNursing college, the remaining 10 NAU baccalaureate credits can be completed within one semester. BSN-prepared nurses are highly valued by potential employers, and MaricopaNursing/NAU CEP graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills to begin their nursing career with a degree that will promote professional knowledge and advancement. CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT PROGRAM INFORMATION The MaricopaNursing/NAU Concurrent Enrollment AAS/BSN Program is a 6-semester program offered through participating community colleges in the Maricopa Community College District. To ensure that prerequisites meet program requirements, students are encouraged to meet with MCCD and NAU college advisors. Attendance at a CEP Information Session and an Application Session is mandatory before application to the program. All CEP courses will be taught at one of the MaricopaNursing campuses, the NAU North Phoenix campus, or online. No CEP courses will be held at the NAU Flagstaff campus. Final determinations of transfer credits will be made by MCCD and NAU admissions personnel. Application and acceptance to Northern Arizona University (NAU) College of Nursing is completed after eligibility into the CEP is determined. If you have accepted placement into a MaricopaNursing Program, you are not eligible to transfer into the CEP. HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS MaricopaNursing and Northern Arizona University School of Nursing have Health and Safety Requirements that must be met prior to enrolling and participating in any clinical experiences. Healthcare agencies throughout the state require vaccinations, titers, and other healthcare related requirements (examples of these requirements are background checks, CPR, drug and nicotine testing, etc.) These requirements are subject to change per healthcare agency contracts with the educational institution and students must be compliant with agency requirements prior to and throughout the program.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who can apply to the Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP)? All students who have completed the eligibility requirements for the CEP are encouraged to apply. Where does the program take place? The CEP will be offered at one of the MaricopaNursing program sites. The initial cohort will be offered at Glendale Community College in the fall of 2011, and additional cohorts are planned in 2012 at GateWay Community College, Mesa Community College, and Scottsdale Community College. All NAU courses are taught online or hybrid, and NAU hybrid courses will be taught at either the NAU North Phoenix Campus or at a Maricopa College campus. Is there a waiting list for the CEP? There is no waiting list for the CEP. If you are not accepted into the program for the semester to which you applied, you must reapply for the semester for which you wish to be considered for enrollment. Do I have to attend a CEP Information Session? Yes. Information about applying to the CEP program can only be obtained at an Information Session. Check your student status page for future locations, dates, times, and registration instructions. You must be in attendance for the entire Information Session in order to have your name placed on the list for program consideration, so please plan to arrive on time and remain for the entire session. How do I register for a CEP Information Session? Registration for a CEP Information Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing student Application Status page. Do I have to attend an Application Session? Yes, if you want to apply for the CEP program. Representatives from MaricopaNursing and NAU will be on-site to verify your eligibility and accept your application if you meet all requirements. Registration for an Application Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing Application Status page. What should I bring to the Application Session? Please bring completed CEP Application, copies of your unofficial college transcripts, and NET or HESI A2 test scores. What are we looking for in a potential candidate that is applying for the CEP? Applications that meet eligibility requirements will be reviewed and student selection will be based on GPA and HESI A2 or NET scores. If I am not selected for the CEP can I reapply? As long as you meet the current CEP requirements, you are eligible to reapply. Do I need to be admitted to the MaricopaNursing pool and to NAU? To be eligible to apply for the CEP, you must be in the MaricopaNursing applicant pool. Following your acceptance into the CEP, you will apply to NAU, and official transcripts must then be submitted to both the MaricopaNursing college where you will attend and to NAU. 4

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (continued) How much does the CEP cost? Tuition costs* for the 35 credits of MaricopaNursing AAS courses = approximately $2,660 (Maricopa tuition effective July 1, 2011 is $76.00 per credit hour ) Textbooks, supplies and course fees are additional. Tuition costs* for the required 30 credits of NAU BSN courses = approximately $9,810.00 Textbooks, supplies, and course fees are additional. *Tuition rates effective 2/29/12 and subject to change due to AZ state budget appropriations. If I am receiving financial aid, how will it be disbursed between the two schools? Because federal regulations require that financial aid can only be disbursed through one college at a time, you will need to apply for financial aid through NAU and complete and sign a consortium agreement for financial aid disbursement. Although the financial aid between the two programs is designed to work seamlessly, this cannot be guaranteed, so there may be times when you will be asked to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition before you receive your NAU financial aid check. You will need to be prepared to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition out of pocket or by payment plan until the balance of your financial aid is awarded by NAU. How are classes scheduled? You will be registered for your MaricopaNursing classes through the nursing department. Course schedules will be posted on Blackboard. NAU courses are primarily online. Hybrid courses will be scheduled around MaricopaNursing courses. When do web-based classes start? The NAU Concurrent Program web-based classes start in the first semester of the MaricopaNursing program and continue throughout the 4 semesters. There is also a summer semester that includes 6 NAU credits. Where do I go for academic advisement for this program? MCCD and NAU advisors are available for pre-application advisement at the individual campus that offers the CEP.
