2 INTRODUCTION MaricopaNursing/Arizona State University Associate-Baccalaureate Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) The MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Program is a program offered through participating community colleges in the Maricopa Community College District and ASU. A limited number of participants are selected from the pool of MaricopaNursing students who have met all MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate- Baccalaureate CEP identified eligibility requirements and have applied to the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate- Baccalaureate CEP. Did you know? 1) Maricopa and ASU have created a Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) for nursing students to obtain an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing at the same time, or within a semester of AAS graduation. 2) The MaricopaNursing/ASU CEP is an educational pathway partnership designed to assist in meeting the Institute of Medicine 2010 Future of Nursing goal to increase the percentage of BSN RNs to 80% in Arizona by ) CEP students will be enrolled in Maricopa and ASU classes at the same time. 4) The first MaricopaNursing/ASU CEP cohort began in fall 2012 at Mesa Community College at Southern and Dobson. 5) ASU CEP courses will be offered online through the Online College. All courses taken through the CEP must be taken through the Online College. Students may not take a hybrid or traditional classroom course. 6) BSN-prepared nurses are highly valued by potential employers and MaricopaNursing/ASU CEP graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills of the new graduate baccalaureate prepared nurses. ELIGIBILITY To be considered for participation in the CEP, the following is required: Acceptance into the MaricopaNursing pool (queue). Completion of all MaricopaNursing and ASU prerequisite and co-requisite requirements. Minimum GPA of 3.25 in all MaricopaNursing and ASU courses that are noted with one asterisk ( * ) on page 3. Registration for and attendance at a MaricopaNursing Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Information Session. Registration for and attendance at a MaricopaNursing Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Application Session only after attending a CEP Information Session. 3 REQUIRED PRE AND CO-REQUISITES: MaricopaNursing Prerequisites and Co-requisites First Year Composition (ENG 101 & ENG 102 or ENG 107 & ENG 108)* Critical Reading (CRE 101) or test exempt Chemistry (CHM 130, CHM 130LL)* [NOT HS chemistry] Intermediate Algebra (MAT 120 or higher) Additional ASU College of Nursing Prerequisites Human Pathophysiology (HCR 240)* College Mathematics (MAT 142 or higher)* Introduction to Psychology (PSY 101 or PSY 240 (*) An additional 7 credits of Upper Division Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II (BIO 201; BIO 202)* (SB with C and/or H; and SB or HU with C Microbiology (BIO 205)* and/or H) are required. These are not Humanities Elective (at least 2 credits) prerequisites but completion is highly recommended prior to entry in program. *Courses used for GPA calculation *As of January 1, 2014, repeated coursework will be accepted for identified ASU prerequisites. KEY INFORMATION Students must be accepted into the MaricopaNursing pool (queue) to be eligible for the program. All students must complete both MaricopaNursing and ASU College of Nursing program pre- and corequisites as noted above. Repeated coursework will be accepted for all prerequisite courses. To ensure that pre- and co-requisites meet program requirements, students are encouraged to meet with MCCD and ASU nursing advisors. Students must attend a MaricopaNursing Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Information Session prior to attending a MaricopaNursing CEP Application Session. Applications must be submitted at a MaricopaNursing Application Session. All MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP nursing courses will be taught at the MaricopaNursing program location or in an online format. Final determinations of transfer credits will be made by both MCCD and ASU admissions personnel. Students currently enrolled in a MaricopaNursing Program are not eligible to transfer into the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP. HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS MaricopaNursing and Arizona State University College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation have Health and Safety Requirements that must be met prior to enrolling and participating in any clinical experiences. Healthcare agencies throughout the state require vaccinations, titers, and other healthcare related requirements (examples of these requirements are background checks, CPR, drug and nicotine testing, etc.) These requirements are subject to change per healthcare agency contracts with the educational institution. 4 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Who can apply to the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate Concurrent Enrollment Program? All students who have completed the eligibility requirements for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP are eligible to apply. Where does the program take place? The MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP is currently offered at Mesa Community College. Additional locations of MaricopaNursing may offer the program in future semesters. All ASU CEP courses are taught in an online format. Is there a waiting list for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP? There is no waiting list for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP. If you are not accepted into the program for the semester to which you applied, you must reapply for consideration in a subsequent application cycle. Do I have to attend a MaricopaNursing CEP Information Session? Yes. In order to apply for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP, students must attend an Information Session. Check your student status page for future locations, dates, times, and registration instructions. You must be in attendance for the entire Information Session in order to have your name placed on the list for program consideration, so please plan to arrive on time and remain for the entire session. How do I register to attend a MaricopaNursing CEP Information Session? Registration for a CEP Information Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing student status page. Do I have to attend a MaricopaNursing Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Application Session? Yes. Representatives from MaricopaNursing and ASU will be on-site for these evaluation sessions to determine if your courses meet all eligibility requirements, so it is essential that you attend one of these sessions before applying to the CEP. Registration for an Application Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing student status page. What information do I need to bring to the CEP Application Session to apply for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP?? Please bring completed CEP Application; HESI A2 scores; and copies of unofficial transcripts from all educational institutions attended. What do you look for in potential candidates that are applying to the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate- Baccalaureate CEP? Student selection will be based on pre- and co-requisite GPA, HESI A2 scores, and prior baccalaureate or higher degrees. A minimum cumulative pre- and co-requisite GPA of 3.25 is required. Can the TEAS be used in place of the HESI A2? No. Students must take the HESI A2 to meet the requirement for CEP participation. If I am not selected for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP, can I reapply? As long as you meet the current CEP requirements, you are eligible to reapply. Do I need to be admitted to the MaricopaNursing pool and to ASU? Yes. To be eligible to apply for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP, you must be in the MaricopaNursing applicant pool. Following acceptance into the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP, you will apply to ASU, and official transcripts from all educational institutions attended must then be submitted to both the MaricopaNursing college location you will attend and to ASU. 5 If I will not be finished with all of my prerequisite and co-requisite courses the semester before I plan to start the program, can I still apply for the MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP? To be eligible to submit an application, all prerequisite and co-requisite courses must be completed. How much does the Maricopa-ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP cost? Tuition costs* for the 35 credits of MaricopaNursing AAS courses = approximately $2,835 (Maricopa tuition is $81.00 per credit hour) Textbooks, supplies and course fees are additional. Tuition costs* for the required 47 credits of ASU BSN courses can be calculated in the ASU link to calculate tuition costs: Use the following selected options when calculating tuition: Academic Year: or when it is available Residency: Arizona Resident Location: Online Academic Career: Undergraduate (Degree-Seeking) Admit Term: Spring 2014 or the term admitted to ASU Admit Level: Junior (if up to 86 total hours are earned) or Senior (if 87 or more total hours are earned) College: Nursing and Health Innovation, College of Academic Program: Nursing, BSN, Pre-Licensure Textbooks, supplies, and course fees are additional. *Tuition rates effective 2012 and subject to change due to Arizona state budget appropriations If I am receiving financial aid, how will it be disbursed between the two schools? Because federal regulations require that financial aid can only be disbursed through one college at a time, you will need to apply for financial aid through ASU and complete and sign a consortium agreement for financial aid disbursement. Although the financial aid between the two programs is designed to work seamlessly, this cannot be guaranteed, so there may be times when you will be asked to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition before you receive your ASU financial aid check. You will need to be prepared to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition out of pocket or by payment plan until the balance of your financial aid is awarded by ASU. How are classes scheduled? You will be registered for your MaricopaNursing classes through the community college nursing department. Course schedules will be posted on Blackboard or sent to you. ASU nursing courses are online (icourse format). When do course (online format) classes start? The MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP course (online format) classes start prior to the first semester of the MaricopaNursing program and continue throughout the four blocks of the MaricopaNursing program. The final ASU semester is the completion of the remaining BSN credits. Where do I go for academic advisement for this program? Maricopa and ASU advisors are available for pre-application advisement at Maricopa locations and ASU. In the event that modification of this course of study is absolutely necessary, approval by the Concurrent Program advisor is required. To maintain your status as a Concurrent Program student, you must be enrolled in an ASU course every semester as noted below. 8 STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of Maricopa-ASU Associate-Baccalaureate Concurrent Enrollment (CEP) Program STEP 1: Student wants to pursue MaricopaNursing/ASU Associate-Baccalaureate Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP). STEP 2: Student is referred to advisement regarding course requirements for an associate s degree from MaricopaNursing, and for the BSN to an advisor for the ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovation. STEP 3: Student applies to and is accepted into the MaricopaNursing pool (queue). STEP 4: Student registers for and attends MaricopaNursing Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Information Session. STEP 5: Student registers for and attends MaricopaNursing Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Application Session. STEP 6: Student submits admission checklist, CEP application, HESI A2 scores, and unofficial transcripts from all educational institutions attended at the Application Session. STEP 7: Maricopa-ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP Acceptance Committee reviews applications and selects applicants for admission into Maricopa-ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP for upcoming semester. STEP 8: Applicants selected for placement are notified of application status by MaricopaNursing and accept/refuse placement. STEP 9: Accepted students apply to ASU Undergraduate Admissions and enroll in TWC 361 and SOC 390 (unless statistics has already been completed). STEP 10: Student completes TWC 361 and SOC 390 during current or upcoming semester. After completion of courses, student begins Maricopa-ASU Associate-Baccalaureate CEP. STEP 11: Student graduates with Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing from MCCD; eligible to take NCLEX-RN licensure exam.
