Distinguished Service Award Cynthia Jacelon, PhD RN CRRN Associate Professor University of Massachusetts School of Nursing Cynthia is a past-president of the ARN board and former chair of the RNF. She has also served as a key contributor to a variety of national committees and task forces and has been a champion of support for ARN chapters. Cynthia has been a consistent supporter and contributor to rehabilitation nursing research, playing a key role in developing the RNF research agenda. She has conducted research on dignity in the aging population and has published her findings in the Journal of Rehabilitation Nursing. Among her most notable recent contributions, Cynthia has taken on the critical task of serving as editor for the new 6th edition of the The Specialty Practice of Rehabilitation Nursing: A Core Curriculum. President's Award Cindy Gatens, MN RN CRRN Clinical Nurse Specialist As a charter member of ARN, many members have had the privilege to work with Cindy on a number of ARN committees and projects. She has mentored many nurses who may not have selected rehabilitation nursing as their first practice area choice and who may not have stayed in rehabilitation practice if not for Cindy's "coaching." Cindy has continually and actively contributed to the organization during the past 36 years and is a worthy recipient of this award because of her dedication and devotion to the practice of rehabilitation nursing and to ARN nationally and locally. Cindy has willingly and consistently responded whenever called upon by ARN to serve. She values her colleagues, the team with which she works, and the rehabilitation patients who benefit from her expertise. Advanced Practice Nurse The Advanced Practice Nurse Award recognizes a nurse in an advanced role who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care. Cindy E. Educator The Educator Award recognizes a nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care through an academic or educational role. Sally Ann Gutierrez, MSN RN CRRN Educator TIRR Memorial Hermann Houston, TX "Ann utilized a model research grant to develop an intermittent catheterization video for patients. She worked to contact the video department to collaborate on the educational video to prepare the patient for clean technique catheterization at home." Nurse Executive The Nurse Executive Award recognizes a rehabilitation nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care in a high-level administration role.
