Instructions for setting up Junk E mail filters Junk E mail filters must be set up using Microsoft Outlook. Users cannot use My.NWACC.Connection or the Web option to successfully configure their Junk E mail filters. 1. Open Outlook. 2. Click on Actions, Junk E mail, Junk E mail Options 3. On the first tab, Options, click on the circle next to High. Then check the bottom box next to Don t turn on links in messages that might connect to unsafe or fraudulent sites.
4. Click on the Safe Senders tab. Click in the two boxes at the bottom Also trust e mail from my Contacts and Automatically add people I e mail to the Safe Senders List.
1. Click on the Add button to the right of the pop up. 2. In the next screen, type *@nwacc.edu into the box. This will allow all messages from NWACC users to pass through the Junk E mail filter and appear in the Inbox. If users have other domains from which e mail is regularly received, add those domain names in the same way as described above. E mail addresses and domain names on the Safe Senders List are never treated as junk e mail, regardless of the content of the message. Messages from people in the Contacts folder will never be treated as junk e mail messages. Personal distribution lists are not added by selecting this check box. If users accidentally reply to a spammer's e mail message and this check box is selected, that spammer's address will be added to the Safe Senders List. If users notice the spammer's subsequent messages in the Inbox, users must add the spammer's address to the Blocked Senders List (see instructions below) and remove the corresponding entry from the Safe Senders List. If the same address is included in both the Blocked Senders List and the Safe Senders List, the Safe Senders List takes precedence and the address will not be considered junk. Messages accidentally put in the Junk E mail folder Some e mail messages that users want to receive might be automatically moved to the Junk E mail folder due to their content. Users should review messages in the Junk E mail folder daily to ensure that needed or expected messages are not missing. If a message is found that is not Junk E mail perform the following steps to move it to another folder. 1. On the Go menu, click Folder List. 2. In the Folder List, click the Junk E mail folder.

3. Right click any messages that you want marked as not junk. 4. Point to Junk E mail, and then click Mark as Not Junk. Junk email Mark as Not Junk Messages marked as not junk are moved to the Inbox or to the folder in which they were stored previously. When users mark a single message as not junk, they are prompted to add the sender or mailing list name to the Safe Senders List or Safe Recipients List.
Deleting messages in your Junk E mail folder Go Folder list All users should empty their Junk E mail folders daily. This ensures that the email quota limit is not breached and also allows for quicker scanning to check for messages which are not Junk E mail. To quickly delete all the messages in the Junk E mail folder and move them to the Deleted Items folder: 1. On the Go menu, click Folder List. Junk E mail folder 2. In the Folder List, right click the Junk E mail folder and then click Empty "Junk E mail" Folder on the shortcut menu. To permanently delete the messages, hold down the SHIFT key while you click Empty "Junk E mail" Folder. Empty Junk E mail Folder
To avoid seeing possibly objectionable messages, users may want to turn off the Reading Pane for this folder. To turn off the Reading Pane, on the View menu, point to Reading Pane, and then click Off. Adding a name to the Blocked Senders List If a message which is Junk E mail should get through the filters and appear in a user s Inbox, perform the following steps to move the message to the Junk E mail filter and permanently block the sender s e mail address. 1. Right click the junk e mail message. Junk email Add Sender to Blocked Senders List 2. On the shortcut menu, point to Junk E mail and click Add Sender to Blocked Senders List. 3.
