SOCIAL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH SCHEME/EXAMINATION A Collaborative Programme of ISEC, Bangalore University & the Christ University AGREEMENT Social Science Talent Search Scheme is an innovative program initiated by the collaborative efforts of Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), the Bangalore University, the Christ University and the Department of PU Education of Karnataka, to rejuvenate and foster the prospect of social science education in Karnataka. It is an endeavour that spots and attracts talented youth towards social science disciplines, while also educating them about the importance of social sciences and the available career opportunities within. The Talent Search Examination was conducted on February 2, 2014 at selected centres of Bangalore Division and twenty five students were selected as the topranking achieves in the examination. The students who join colleges in the Bangalore Division for degree courses taking social science subjects will qualify for the award of scholarship which is offered by the Bangalore University @ Rs.500 per month per student for 3 years. The Christ University has offered Rs.500 per student per month for three years for about 10 students who would join for BA course in their college. The selected students are also eligible to participate in an orientation to be offered by ISEC during this tenure. The selected students are expected to abide by certain norms as detailed below set by ISEC and its collaborators to avail the benefits of the scheme. The selected student shall enroll himself/herself in a Degree program (B.A Degree), in any college in the jurisdiction of Bangalore Division, with the group combination choosing from Social Science disciplines. Upon doing so the said student shall submit to ISEC the details of his/her admission to the BA course (with details of name and address of the College where admission was secured, the subjects selected for study and proof of fee paid such as receipt) as soon as the admission is complete and as eligibility to attend the training course to be held at ISEC in course of time. The student shall submit periodical progress in tests and examinations in his/her course whether it is semester based or held annually. The student will lose eligibility to receive scholarship in the event of she /he failing in the exams (semester or non semester). Under any circumstances, she or he must strive to continue performing well in the exams continuously for three years. A copy of the certificate or marks card of each semester or annually (as the case may be) shall be submitted to the 3
ISEC each time the result of an exam is declared till the completion of three years of undergraduate study in Social Sciences. The student, without fail, shall attend the orientation program to be offered at ISEC once in each year of three consecutive years of undergraduate study. The idea behind offering the above orientation, in the first year, is partly to motivate the students to pursue education in social science disciplines and partly to expose them to the various disciplines of Social Sciences and the career opportunities thereof. The curriculum of this program also assesses the aptitude of students towards Social Sciences and directs them accordingly to the future courses of BA degree. The orientation program of later two years is to enhance the rigor of the student s collegiate education and to complement their learning process. Under the above circumstances, it is decided to receive the following undertaking from each one of the selected 25 students. This is expected to act as a binding force upon their commitment towards the whole exercise of popularizing and sustaining the interest of youngsters in pursuing social science studies. Declaration by the Student I hereby declare that I have read the norms set by the authorities concerned with Social Science Talent Search Scheme and have understood them in letter and spirit.
