1 Pat, Let me provide some context for this information. You will recall that last year the Graduate Council proposed new university requirements for admission to graduate study in response to the elimination of the Board of Governor's graduate admission rules. These requirements were reviewed and approved by the Academic Council, Senate, Provost and UWF Board of Trustees. The next step was for each department to develop departmental admission guidelines that were consistent with the new general UWF graduate admission requirements. These departmental guidelines are what Lindsey has just sent you. Some departments have specified minimum admission requirements and others have indicated that they will use a holistic review via a rubric of specific evidence that each student must submit. The information presented for review is what will appear in the graduate catalog. The graduate council and I have reviewed this information and recommend it to the Academic Council. In our review we examined the rubric to be used in the case of the holistic review and where minimum standards were identified made sure that those minimums were consistent with national norms and UWF historical norms. I am very proud of each of the graduate departments for their diligence in developing these admission requirements. I will be at this week's Academic Council meeting to address questions. Please forward this note to the members of the Academic Council along with the department information Lindsey submitted for your review. Best regards, Richard Richard S. Podemski Associate VP for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies University of West Florida (850) work (850) cell
