1 CHRIST UNIVERSITY Financial Support to Faculty Members pursuing Ph D / Higher Studies Regulations Objective: Christ University nurtures academic advancement of its faculty resources and towards this end would extend financial support to the faculty members for pursuing research. This support is independent of the financial support given under the scheme of the Research Development Cell constituted by the University. This scheme particularly aims at encouraging faculty members to pursue independent doctoral research to enrich their academic specializations, and in turn to enhance the quality of education to the taught. Eligibility: The faculty members of the college seeking financial support scheme have to satisfy the following eligibility requirements: 1. Must be regular and confirmed teaching staff of the University having put in a minimum of two years of continuous and satisfactory service. 2. Must have registered for M.Phil, PhD or a Post-Doctoral program in a recognized/ accredited University or Institute in or outside India and where applicable, the Research Guide must have been chosen and his/her consent obtained. The topic of research for PhD and PDR, for consideration of assistance must be directly related to the subject/s of study of the faculty at the PG level. For other programs the pre requisites as applicable must be adhered to. 3. The time limit for completion of the program must not exceed 3years from the date of registration. Financial Assistance: a) The financial assistance under the scheme would be subject to budgetary limits of the University set for the purpose and hence has to be applied for within applicable time limits specified by the University. Where the number of applications received exceeds the budgeted disbursals, priority will be given to faculty members of longer service in the University, number of Papers published, number of Paper presentations and participation in RDC scheme of the University, in that order. There will be no carry forward of applications not considered in any particular year and hence has to be reapplied for in the next year if assistance is sought. Assistance would be considered for the program, whether it is already started or to be started. For programs already started no assistance would be considered for the expired duration. Amount of eligible assistance would be disbursed yearly as lump sum on pro-rata basis, spread over the research period. b) The financial assistance would be to meet mainly the direct costs related to research such as literature review, statistical compilations, seminars/conferences etc. Travel related costs admissible for the assistance shall not exceed 20% of the total assistance approved.
2 c) The duration of the Research Project and the area of research specialization would guide amount of Assistance under the scheme. Actual assistance shall be by reimbursement of costs actually incurred (reasonable proof required) subject to the limits specified by the college.the maximum entitlement in any case, shall not exceed the cost estimate proposed in the research proposal. d) Where the faculty is entitled for a fellowship or non-refundable financial assistance from any other institution, the financial assistance from the University would be restricted to 60% of the amount specified. e) The maximum amount of financial assistance under the scheme is detailed in the table below. The limits set for Research Programs 1 and 2 are based on three-year duration and will be proportionately reduced if the program is for two-year duration. Application Procedure: 1. Application for assistance must be made in the prescribed format along with copies of the documents specified therein. 2. Applications must be submitted to the Dean concerned through the HOD, on any working day in the month of July every year. The decision on all the applications would be announced on or before 31 st August. 3. The Dean may seek an interview with the faculty member concerned before recording his comments on the application. 4. The Dean shall examine the applications based on the relevant eligibility criteria and shall forward the same to the Finance Officer with his comments. Application approval & Disbursement Procedure: 1. The Finance Officer and all the Deans shall have a meeting to decide on the approval of the applications. 2. Faculty Members whose application has been approved will be advised by the concerned Dean, of such approval in the prescribed format in duplicate. The duplicate has to be signed and returned in token of acceptance of the assistance 3. Agreement of Commitment must be executed by the Faculty Member in the prescribed form.
3 4. Disbursement Approval Note will be issued by the Dean based on which the Finance Officer shall release the assistance. 5. First disbursement will be 50% of the approved amount for the year. Balance 50% will be disbursed on submission of the half yearly progress report and the account statement and the procedure shall continue till the full disbursement of the approved amount is made. Illustration: Suppose the approved amount is Rs.80000/- for a two year PhD research. Annual limit would be Rs.40000/- of which Rs.20000/- will be paid on signing the AOC.Balance due for the year will be paid on submitting the progress report at the end of first six months, the next Rs (50% 0f what is due in second year) at the end of next six months on submission of the second progress report and the final balance on submission of the final report at the close of the final duration. Terms & Conditions: 1. Faculty Members availing the assistance have to adhere to and be subject to the following terms & conditions: a) No special leave or sabbatical would be permissible. b) No exemption from regular work assignments. c) Agreement of Commitment has to be executed. This is an undertaking by the faculty member concerned to complete the research within the specified or extended time period and to refund the funded amounts in full in the event of discontinuing service during the research period or within a period of 3or 2 years as may be applicable from the date of completion of the Research (3 years for Doctoral / Post Doctoral programs and 2 years for other programs) d) For doctoral and post-doctoral programs, Progress Report in the prescribed format must be submitted once in six months till the completion of the Research. Non-submission of Progress Report duly certified by the Research Guide would disqualify continuation of the assistance in the succeeding year/s
