ANNUAL REPORT 2011-2012 School Year Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School provides quality spiritual and academic experiences that are rooted in Catholic values.
FAITH Student faith is nurtured and developed through the practice of service, compassion, love, and respect. Our teachers inspire them to reflect upon the message of the Gospel at school and in their daily lives. Entire School celebrated weekly liturgies together Students discuss and practice a different virtue each month Regular classroom visits by Monsignor Mannion and Father Dominic Reconciliation, 1 st Holy Communion, Confirmation Monthly student-led prayer services for entire school Rosary, May Crowning, Bible Ceremony, Blessed Mother Mary s Birthday, Saints Parade Feast Day of Saint Francis celebrated with blessing of the animals Hosted a Family Advent Night Stations of the Cross Path completed which connects to the prayer garden Monthly Stewardship collection at all school mass with money going to different charities Original Christmas song Annunciation 2011 copyright 2011 was sung during Christmas program ACADEMICS It is our commitment to provide a sound academic program, where students become effective communicators and self-evaluators. We strongly believe that when we teach children to have a love of learning it will allow a discovery of the wonders awaiting them. Over 50% of graduating 8 th graders placed in honors or AP classes at the high school level Saint Vincent s School is one of the top 3 Catholic Schools in the diocese in SAT scores 60 ipads bought for school for teachers to checkout and use in classrooms Saint Vincent s picked as Fox 13 Cool School of the Week in January 2 nd grade receives grant for a 10 ipads learning center in their classroom Students go on 33 educational fieldtrips gaining hands-on learning experiences 31 guest speakers came to our classrooms Principal Longe selected to be on the board of the National Catholic Education Association Board Rhea Hristou, 2 nd grade teacher, chosen to be the 2 nd grade representative for the National Core Curriculum symposium held in Atlanta Hands on Science for our 5 th 7 th grade students Exploratory Fridays for our middle school students during 2 nd quarter where they studied non traditional subjects Smart board in service training for our teachers (all classrooms have Smartboards) 7 th grade student wins Top Overall Science Award at Diocesan Science Fair Top honorees at competitions including, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, Science Fair and Knights of Columbus essay contest 15 Musical performances and assemblies performed by our students A Literacy Night was held for all students and parents in January Library continues to grow with more books and accelerated reader tests
SERVICE We realize the importance of reaching out to serve our community and provide the best opportunity for our children to develop into active Christians. $6600 collected by students for various charities such as Red Cross, Soup Kitchen, Somalia Famine, Road Home, Heifer International and the Carmelite Monastery. Japan Earthquake victims, Orphanage in Africa, Heifer International, Make-a-Wish Foundation and The Humane Society Saint Vincent s adopts three senior/rehabilitation centers, having students interact with seniors, monthly Family Community Day of Service was done by students and their families at the Utah Food Bank Donated food to the food pantry for Thanksgiving and Christmas Band performs at IHC Holiday luncheon Students create and paint design on a snowplow blade for Salt Lake County which will be used during snow months Students dedicated over 3000 service hours to local non-profits Donated blankets,toys, supplies for cats at the Utah Animal Adoption Center 5th Grade Students play Are you smarter than a 5 th grader competing with seniors at Wellington Nursing Home EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Saint Vincent de Paul School provides many extra-curricular activities which help our students learn and grow as well as build relationships with other students 68 students participate in Band and Choir Program Saint Vincent students participate together on competitive Saint Vincent sports teams Learn to Golf Program after school in fall and spring Girls on the Run Self Esteem Program in fall and spring Ski and Snowboard Program in the winter months Theatrical Arts Missoula Children s Theatre performed King Arthurs Court 75 Students participate in the Saint Patrick s Day parade Active Student Government Bands from other Catholic School perform at Band Festival at St. Vincent s Many students participate in afterschool extended day program Nano Nagle Summer Camp Program a huge success
