PLACEMENT REPORT MBA Batch of 2013-15
INTRODUCTION The commendable response that RICS School of Built Environment received for its first placement session has left an impressive mark. But this is not surprising for someone inside RICS SBE. Right from the beginning we were sure about the results. This is merely a proof to the outside world that what we say is we do. The journey of RICS SBE that begun with the support of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India and 200 leading companies across sectors has now reached an important milestone. About 70 leading companies actively participated in the campus placement that begun in early December 2014. These included renowned firms including real estate developers, global and domestic real estate consulting, construction consulting, banks and housing finance institutions, construction firms, private equity funds, facility management firms and global investment banks. The process began long before the actual placements took place. Companies visited for pre placement talks to update students about the job profiles they were offering and handpick students that best suited their roles. With student interest & preference being the primary driver, the placement team helped students in narrowing their choices. Also the students were given an opportunity to sit for multiple relevant employers. The stringent placement process comprised of various rounds to be cleared before shortlisting. Group discussions, technical interviews, personal interviews and at times interviews at the employer s office were part of the process, before the final selection. Students were evaluated on their knowledge and acumen acquired during the various projects and internships. Practical and theoretical knowledge both were put to test. After this process,skill-set matching between employer needs and student skills was done. As much as 85% of the batch was placed within the first 15 days. Given the quality of our students, the companies who came in early got the advantage to hire. Many companies, who came in after the placement fortnight, were forced to leave empty handed. Also students with multiple job offers were guided by theplacement team to evaluate their choices based on the organization, their role and remuneration. Today RICS School of Built Environment needs no introduction amongst students. Its achievements stand as a testimony for its integral performance. Have a look inside to know more. 6

HARSH MADAN MBA REUI Financial Analyst at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) INR 11 lac CTC Before doing my MBA, I was an Engineer by qualification and an IT professional by profession. When I got to know about RICS SBE, I did a thorough research before joining because leaving behind a fulltime job was not easy. I am glad I decided upon my MBA in Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure (REUI) from RICS SBE. Experience My placement experience was exciting and rewarding. Though there was initial anxiety but individual attention given from senior management, dedicated coordinators and prior intimation of list of companies helped a lot. I have specific requirements which were understood by the management and then mentoring was done for specific purpose. The process had different rounds: 1. Initial Introductory HR round 2. Technical Interview 3. Client Interview with Brookfield - CFO 4. Client Interview : Brookfield Operation Head Faculty and management helped and supported me in early joining during my last semester as per requirements of client. I think I was selected because of acquired experience in real estate & finance and my experience in IT in enterprise applications. Result I applied for KPMG and JLL. I got selected in JLL for project Brookfield (real estate private equity project) as Financial Analyst. I am still new and getting settled in my new role at JLL. Though work is too much but I am at the right place and getting a lot of exposure.
MOHAMMAD YUNUS MBA REUI Manager (Sales & Marketing) at Akshaya Housing INR 13 lac CTC I was an IT graduate with a year s experience in the business analytics division of an IT firm. But my dreams brought me to RICS SBE. What followed was a unique journey of learning, exploring and skilling spread across two years. Experience Real estate cannot be taught with books alone, so on an average we had one site visit in every two weeks, followed by guest lectures by eminent industry stalwarts. I think this helped me sharpen my skill set and gave me in-depth understanding of this field which in turn helped me in the placement process. I applied in three companies TATA Housing, Akshaya and Mahindra Lifespace Developers. I was selected in two TATA Housing and Akshaya after the initial screening, group discussion followed by personal interview. Throughout the process I received valuable help by faculty and mentorship team. They provided guidance on improving my soft skills and presenting my knowledge in a refined manner. All this I believe, helped me bag the offer of a Manager (Sales & Marketing) at 13 lac CTC with Akshaya. Result I think they selected me because of RICS pedigree, my unique specialized degree in real estate, my communication skills and analytical abilities. I think very few specialized MBA graduates from other institutes can boast about such an achievement in their campus placement.
AYUSH JAIN MBA CPM Executive Advisory (Risk Consulting) at KPMG From a very small age I was fascinated about breath taking structures and buildings and thought what goes into making them. To pursue my interest I did civil engineering but after engineering I realized that merely technical skills would not help me make a successful career in this field. So to equip myself with managerial skills that were relevant to my sector I chose an MBA in Construction Project Management (CPM) from RICS SBE. Experience When the placements began, I was in UK at the University of Salford for a student exchange program. Many construction industry leaders and multinational companies from across the globe visited the campus to provide placement opportunities to the potential students. RICS SBE made it a point that all students get equal and fair opportunity to apply in the companies of their choices and interest. For this, they organized Skype sessions for students like me (who were abroad) to prepare them for their interviews. Having an exposure of studying in an international university (one semester at University of Salford) and working in a real estate consultancy firm in U.K (during the same time), I wanted to work in an international consultancy company. I applied for KPMG and I gave my interview through Skype. Result I got selected in KPMG which is a really big achievement for me. I would say that the performance of a student in an interview is not merely based on last two weeks learning but it s about the knowledge inculcated throughout the course, management skills developed at the internship and competency gained through series of presentation, case studies and industry interaction.

POWER PACKED GIRLS Archana Veeramachaneni MBA REUI Mahindra Lifespace Developers See how a professional tennis player scored high in the real estate industry with a specialized MBA from RICS SBE. Archana Veera is a living example of a never-say-die spirit. Leaving behind her unsatiated dreams of being an international tennis player, she chose to do an MBA in REUI. Two years down the line, she is both satisfied and exhilarated about her future. Let s see what she has to say. Initially I was planning to go abroad to pursue my MBA in finance/hospitality. At that time, my father introduced me to RICS SBE. When I realized that I was being offered international level education within India I decided to go for it. Being a girl in a male-dominated class, I was worried initially. I also felt too young as some of my classmates had prior working experience. But after spending 3 semesters here I realized that as a girl, I have the same (if not more) chances to make a career in this industry. All I needed to do was work hard and confidently. The same is true for every girl out there. For my final placement, I wanted to work for an International Property Consultant (IPC) or a Developer. So I interviewed for Mahindra Lifespace Developers and CBRE. I got selected for Mahindra Lifespace Developers.
Ashita Jain MBA REUI Cushman & Wakefield Ashita was inclined towards commerce from the very beginning, so she did her B.Com Hons from Delhi University. In her summer break she interned with Colliers and this was her first introduction to the organized facet of the real estate industry. With a dream to make a career in the real estate industry she looked for a higher education in this field. Luckily she came across RICS SBE which is an industry led institute. The backing of industry experts motivated her to take up an MBA in REUI at RICS SBE. My journey at RICS SBE was an eye opener to the built environment industry. The scale of knowledge and experience I gained here is incomparable. During placements initially I was a bit apprehensive as there were only two girls in the crowd of 20 students sitting for the interview. But I had the confidence in my acquired knowledge and skills. Also I think working in the leasing section of Hines India during internship helped me in the landing up with the job offer. I believe if you are hardworking, confident and dedicated nothing can stop you from achieving success in this field. It is a male driven industry but women do get their chance to shine
Saumya Budhiraja MBA REUI Experion Coming from a Maths background, see how Saumya Budhiraja evolved her people skills and transformed from an introvert to a great communicator while learning at RICS SBE. So much so that during placements, employers found her more capable for Sales & Marketing role instead of behind the desk jobs like valuations. Know more about her story. When the companies came in for placements, I was determined to make my mark with my number skills. Though I was aware that I have picked up soft skills and people skills during the course of two years but I still felt more at ease with numbers. So I applied for valuations and asset management roles. What happened next, took me my surprise. 3 out of the four companies I applied for found my communication skills stronger. For instance, Supertech Limited offered me a Sales & Marketing role, so I declined. The same thing happened with Experion. I took help from my faculty and placement team. They made me understand that my number crunching skills coupled with my terrific communication skills will make me an asset for the employer in Sales & Marketing. When I realized this, I willingly took up the Sales & Marketing offer extended by Experion.
Aditi Sharma MBA CPM Knight Frank Coming from a construction business family, Aditi had this spark to create an identity in this industry. She decided to pursue an MBA in CPM from RICS SBE. In her final year, she also studied in the University of Salford, UK for one semester. All this, helped her bagged a job with one of the leading international consultancy firm, Knight Frank. I am grateful to RICS SBE to provide me an opportunity to study at the University of Salford, UK. It is one of the top universities offering construction program in UK. I also interned with Procure Plus while studying there which gave the exposure of advanced technologies used in UK. I think all this, helped me in my placement at Knight Frank. When the placement process started I was still in UK for the student exchange program. I was interviewed on skype and soon shortlisted. Now I am ready to make my mark in the industry. Being a girl, I do not feel inhibited and am ready to face challenges that come my way. In UK, I have seen girls as much capable as boys. This gives me the hope that this can happen in India as well. And to make this a reality, I will start with myself.
