Frm a life curse and life stry perspective, the aim f this study is t examine hw educatrs in the Birmingham metrplitan area view the salience f activism in carrying ut their rles in urban schls and cmmunities. A cre assumptin f this study is that a histrical discntinuity in the traditin f activism exists between African-American educatrs brn pre- and pst civil rights. This discntinuity is attributed primarily t a failure t articulate and bridge between the generatins, the histrical memry f the struggles fr scial justice in the educatin prfessin. Frty-tw African-American educatrs selected alng the dimensins f generatin, gender, and prfessinal rle were interviewed. Principal Investigatr. 2004-present Cmmunities and Schls Tgether (CAST) Prject.
