Unpacking SUBRAID MAX STD rebuild backup system 1. Unpack internal SUBRAID MAX STD system from the carton 2. Included for easy integration: - SUBRAID system with two hot swappable trays -Two keys for tray lock -SATA (onboard) to E-SATA data cable Hardware installation To install the SUBRAID MAX STD rebuild backup system, please follow these steps: 1. Turn off the power of computer. 2. Remove the cover from the computer case. 3. Put SUBRAID MAX STD rebuild backup system into the 2 conjunct 5.25 bays space and secured it properly. 4. Connect DC cable from power supply to SUBRAID MAX STD 5. Connect SATA-ESATA cable from motherboard to SUBRAID MAX STD 6. Cover computer case. Install one hard drive into upper bay as MASTER drive. You have now completed the installation of the SUBRAID MAX STD and ready for O/S installation. Page 2 of 7

KEY BACKUP LCD BACKUP For system upgrade Be sure you do have a good back up copy of the drive or disk image of the drive before proceeding. Plug the hard drive into the master bay. Turn key lock to on. Start system as normal. When Sub-raid MAX STD LCD display MASTER:OK, BACKUP:WAIT, system is ready. Create BACKUP hard drive copy - After O/S installed and system been configured properly. -Put second hard drive into BACKUP tray - Insert into SUBRAID MAX STD BACKUP bay - Turn the BACKUP key lock on - The LCD display will show from "" to "" - Then start hard drive mirror rebuild processing. - After rebuild processing completed, LCD will show " and " - When and If users require extra assurance for the back up drive data integrity. Press and hold on the front red button. Wait for VERIFY function been activated. Then release the red button. VERIFY : XXXXG Based on the master hard drive, Sub-Raid STD will read from both drive and verify each used sector. - When completed, LCD will display: Create off site back up copy or extra copy for safety precaution - Turn the BACKUP key lock off - Wait for LCD display changed from "" to "" - When LCD display "". Indicated it s safe to pull out BACK UP drive. The good copy can be for off site or extra rotated back up drive. (The content will only be updated to the second you turn BACKUP KEY TO OFF.) - And then put another backup drive into the BACKUP bay - Turn the BACKUP key lock on - The LCD display will show "" to "" - Then starting hard drive mirror rebuilds processing. - When completed, LCD will display, "" WORKING STATUS 1. The LCD shows both hard drives were unlock and SUBRAID system LCD shows: MASTER: OFF At such time, SUBRAID system does not provide DC power to MASTER and BACKUP hard drive. MRS SUBRAID STD will not provide MASTER and BACKUP hard drive Read/Write function. 2. When MASTER hard drive locked and system at good working condition, BACKUP hard drive unlocked, the SUBRAID STD system LCD shows: At such time, SUBRAID STD system will provides MASTER hard drive read/write function but no data redundancy. 3. When MASTER hard drive locked and system at good working condition, plug in BACKUP hard drive with smaller size hard drive and locked. SUBRAID STD LCD shows: MASTER: ON BACKUP: TOO SMALL When SUBRAID STD shown BACKUP: TOO SMALL indicated BACKUP Page 5 of 7
Hard drive size too small for raid 1 mirroring. Backup drive for raid 1 needed to be equal to or bigger than the master drive. 4. When MASTER and BACKUP shown both hard drives were in good condition, the SUBRAID system LCD shows: SUBRAID STD system will provide read/write function. Online back up functioning. 5. When MASTER hard drive shown OK, BACKUP hard drive was not working properly. The SUBRAID STD can not detect BACKUP hard drive. The SUBRAID system LCD shows: BACKUP: HDD FAIL? At such time, the SUBRAID MAX system still provides read/write function, but the RAID function is no longer existed. Online back up not available. Please unlock and replace a new hard disk on BACKUP bay, relock tray, SUBRAID will auto start the rebuilding. The SUBRAID system LCD shows: 6. During mirroring rebuild. MASTER hard drive suddenly failed, BACKUP hard drive has not been completely finish rebuild the SUBRAID system LCD shows: (Chances for this to occur are very rare. But it is possible. That s why we strongly recommend to swap drives after normal office hours and using 3 hard drives configuration.) MASTER: FAIL PLEASE REPLACE IT At such time, the SUBRAID STD system will stop and wait for replacing MASTER hard drive. If you are using 3 drives configuration. Replace MASTER hard drives, unlock BACKUP hard drive then restart system. This master drive s data will be as updated as the last time you swap this drive. SUBRAID system LCD shows Page 6 of 7
7. During rebuilding, MASTER hard drive shown normal, BACKUP hard drive failed. SUBRAID system LCD shows: BACKUP: HDD FAIL? At such time, the SUBRAID MAX system still provides read/write function, but the RAID function is no longer existed. Online back up not available. Replace BACKUP drive, SUBRAID will auto start the rebuilding. 8. MASTER and BACKUP hard drives were good and mirroring been completed. MASTER hard drive failed. SUBRAID system LCD shows: MASTER: HD Fail At such time, SUBRAID STD system provides read/write function. Real time BACKUP function is no longer available. As soon as you can, Power down system, Unlock, removes and replaces the failed hard drive. Move the working BACKUP DRIVE TO UPPER BAY AS MASTER DRIVE. Power on and boot system, check system configuration and data files. Plug in the new BACKUP drive, SUBRAID will auto start the rebuilding.
