Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 3 Alarms Overview Alarms are defined by their inputs and outputs. Because of this in order to add an alarm there is a process leading from setting up the initial alarm, adding it s inputs and adding it s outputs. The image below shows all the inputs and outputs that can be configured with alarms. Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 5 Creating the Alarm 1) Launch the Sicam Configuration application 2) Select the Alarm Browser in the Base Setup Menu 2) Select the Add Button from the bottom of the window 3) This will open a new window with all the available parameters for the new alarm. Here the name and description are set. The first step is to give the alarm a name. Try and pick something that is appropriate for the given condition. Also make sure to check the enabled box. 4)Press the Save button, the raw alarm has been created.
Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 6 Setting Alarm Trigger Monitor 1) To set the alarm trigger go to the Monitor Browser under the Display Setup tab 2) Select the monitor you wish to trigger the alarm and press the Edit button 3) Under the Monitor Settings tab there is an alarms section. Select the alarm from the drop down list of alarms and then press the Add Alarm button. Then you can set all the parameters for the alarm like the control limits and the minimum count before triggering the alarm.
Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 7 Piece Monitor 1) To set the alarm triggers go to the Piece Monitor Browser under the Base Setup tab 2) Select the monitor you wish to trigger the alarm and press the Edit button 3) Under the Alarms tab you can add the alarm to the list by selecting it from the dropdown menu and pressing Add Alarm. 4) Under the Monitor Settings tab you set the control limits for the alarm.
Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 8 Setting Alarm Outputs The alarm is now ready to be configured for outputs. A list of outputs and how they are configured follows RDS and Display Center The alarm will automatically show up in the RDS in the Alarm Status Viewer.

Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 10 PLC Alarm First set up a PLC Node using the PLC node guide (Doc 1019) Linking the Node to an Alarm PLC Nodes are linked to Alarms through the Alarm Browser in the Base Setup tab of the Realtime Configuration application. Selecting the Alarm Browser button will open a window with all the available alarms. To add the node to an existing alarm select the appropriate alarm and press the Edit button.
Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 11 In this window check the PLC box, and make sure that the Enabled box is checked, then navigate to the PLC tab along the top of the window. Selecting the PLC window will bring up the settings for adding a PLC node. In the available dropdowns select the appropriate PLC Config, PLC Node, On Value, and Off Value as in the PLC settings. Now the Node is linked to an alarm.
Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 12 Testing Alarms In order to test the output of alarms the most useful tool is the alarms browser in the RDS, here you can view that status of an alarm as well as trigger it manually. 1) Launch the RDS 2) Open the Alarm Status Viewer, here you can see all the alarms as well as their current states 3) Select the alarm you wish to test 4) On the toolbar across the top select the AlarmStatus dropdown, and press the toggle button. This will trip the alarm manually. This menu can also enable or disable alarms.
Sicam Systems Guide - Alarms 1017 13 Testing a PLC Testing is done using the PLC Viewer tool in the Tools dropdown in the RDS application. This opens a window showing all the PLCs, select the appropriate PLC and expand it, then expand the Nodes section. This shows all the available nodes for a given PLC, and then select the node you wish to test. Expand the node you wish to test. And expand the Node Values section. Here you can test the separate node values. Right click on either state to write them to the PLC. When the Alarm On state is written the PLC should be triggered.
