Excel Pre-terminated Copper and Fibre Optic Systems Excel is a world-class premium performing end-to-end infrastructure solution - designed, manufactured, supported and delivered - without compromise.

Excel Pre-terminated Copper and Fibre Optic Systems Excel Pre-terminated Solutions The conventional way to deliver a copper or fibre optic infrastructure cabling system has been for the cable, connecting hardware and accessories to be installed and terminated onsite. The installation has to be programmed in to fit in with all other project works. This can sometimes be a protracted exercise to fit around the other trades. Long projects are subject to unforeseen delays, and as the infrastructure cabling packages are usually towards the end of the project, these may be under greater pressure to speed up to ensure the overall project is not delayed. Some projects, that are predominately copper, may only have a small element of optical fibre infrastructure cabling. This may involve the need to bring in installation engineers for a specific section of the installation that does not account for much of the overall job. What is a pre-terminated solution? At the simplest, a pre-terminated solution is the correct length of cable (copper or fibre) with the connectors attached before delivery to site. The physical constraints, containment and the environment that the infrastructure is to be installed will dictate the amount of mounting hardware that can be pre-assembled. This can range from a cable with a connector fixed to one end only, to a fully installed cabinet; all are possible. Copper Excel is able to offer pre-termination solutions from across the entire range. This covers components from the Category 5e, 6 and 6 A portfolio in either unscreened or screened variants. The cables may be bundled in quantities to suit the installation. With the introduction of the Excel GOP boxes, a popular option is to have these pre-terminated. The assembly is supplied to site with the outlet jacks having been terminated onto the cable and already fitted within the GOP box and with flexible conduit in place. The patch panel jacks are either terminated on the cable or, in the case where the exact cable management is not finalised, they may be installed onsite, allowing the precise cable routing required. Example: Length 4/101 4/102 4/103 4/104 4/105 4/106 TR-B/4/101-106 Flexible conduit Braided cable sheath GOP Box complete with Shutters Jacks Labels Cable labels Keystone Jacks

without compromise. Fibre Optic The Excel pre-terminated fibre optic portfolio is available in OM1, OM2, OM3 and OM4 multimode and OS1 and OS2 singlemode categories of system. The choice of cable type allows for the assembly to match the environment that it will be installed in i.e. whether this is steel wire armoured, loose tube, for an external direct bury situation or a single core tight buffered LSOH assembly for directly connecting switch ports in a data centre. Standard fibre termination can be a costly exercise as highly skilled engineers and specialist equipment are required to complete an installation. With the Excel fibre pre-terminated solution Excel will provide fully tested fibre looms that can be installed by non-specialist personnel, vastly reducing the installation time onsite. The Benefits of Pre-terminated Solutions Pre-terminated solutions are ideal for projects with limited time available onsite for installation or for rapid deployment projects, such as a disaster recovery. Whether the installation is for an Excel copper or fibre requirement, Excel s pre-terminated solution provides a fully traceable and warranted system and could reduce the installation time as much as 75%. A range of benefits are available from most pre-terminated solutions, time saving and repeatable quality being two of the most obvious. But the Excel offering brings much more as the system is more flexible than any other, ultimately allowing the customer to retain control of cost and design. Benefits at a glance: Simple to use, specify and install Use standard products no costly manufacture of specific products Copper a choice of Category 5e, 6, 6 A, unscreened or screened Fibre a choice of multimode, singlemode. Conventional design terminated with ST, SC, LC, or FC Fibre high density MTP systems Cost effective but doesn t erode margins Warranted - 25 year warranty when installed by a qualified Excel Cabling Partner Traceable cable batch, engineer, cable test Saves time reduces installation time by at least 75% Eliminates waste onsite Maximises cable usage Reduces logistics time on site e.g. storing/unloading, labelling Labelling Each pre-terminated assembly has a unique serial number to enable tracking through the entire manufacturing process. The serial number label is attached to the cable in an agreed location so as not to be visible after the installation is complete. The end user labelling can be installed during the Excel manufacturing process so that every cable, shutter, faceplate, GOP box and patch panel is labelled before reaching site. Excel is able to provide assistance with the design of the labelling scheme if required. Manufacturing process The pre-terminated assemblies are manufactured in the Excel facility under controlled conditions, assuring the highest quality of product, matching the customer s specification and configuration. The finished cable assemblies are loaded onto wheeled trolleys for storage until the time of delivery. The assemblies are delivered on these trolleys all the way to site. The purpose is to eliminate risk from unnecessary handling. The trolleys are then collected, reducing the costly onsite waste disposal.

Excel Pre-terminated Copper and Fibre Optic Systems Testing The pre-terminated assemblies are 100% tested during manufacture to the standard specified within the contract. All testing is carried out by trained staff using calibrated equipment with the latest firmware and software installed. All results are recorded and supplied for inspection. The exception to a full certification test being carried out is where single ended pre-termination is ordered. In these cases the factory testing will be agreed beforehand with the minimum continuity being verified. Each link is tested to ensure that they exceed the relevant standard, once checked each preterminated cable is given a unique reference number and is provided with a full test certificate, supplied in a choice of soft or hard copy. Logistics Excel is more than aware that successful projects rely on seamless logistics. The planning and delivery can make or break the project. This is why Excel is able to work with installers to schedule deliveries to meet the programme, ensuring the smooth running of the installation, by eliminating onsite storage which adds handling time and takes up valuable space. Fast, Easy and Flexible Excel allows the installer or user to retain control, choosing the product from the standard offering: standard 4 pair cable, pre-loomed versions, a keystone jack and PCB module, and from the patch panel range there is a choice from pre-loaded to modular designs. The customer selects the product, pays the same price per component as a standard install, and Excel provides the termination and labelling service at a very competitive cost. Following on from a detailed site survey of the premises, the customer will establish the lengths of cables required in each area. This can be carried out by one of the Excel support team if required. Once the products and the configuration for each area has been identified e.g 4 modules to a 4 way outlet etc, then the cable assemblies are manufactured by Excel s skilled work force in a controlled environment. Each one is produced to the customer s specific requirements and is tested to ensure 100% reliability. Quality Assured Once the pre-terminated cables have been manufactured and have passed through quality control they are stored on moveable trolleys ready for delivery to site. Once loaded on the trolleys, the cables don t come off until the point of installation, therefore reducing any risk of damage to the cable or performance degradation. Each dispenser, cable assembly and outlet has a unique reference number to allow them to be tracked and delivered in accordance with the installation programme. This also makes it easy for the engineers onsite when the installation takes place. Seamless Delivery and Time Saving Installation Excel will deliver trolleys to site in line with the pre-agreed delivery schedule. Depending on the size and the requirement of the installation, Excel will collect empty trolleys from site and deliver the next loaded ones. Dispensers can also be supplied that allow the cables to be easily installed without timely unwinding or twisting. The pull tension is significantly less than conventional drums or boxes. At the end of the job Excel will collect all of the empty dispensers ensuring that the customer has no waste to dispose of onsite.

without compromise. Enquiring couldn t be simpler! Before Excel can quote for a pre-terminated solution a few basic details are needed:- 1 Is Category 5e, 6, 6 A, UTP or FTP, or Fibre, or a mixture of Copper and Fibre required? 2 Specify the average cable lengths 3 Specify the number of overall terminations i.e. 3, 4, 6, 8 or 24 way looms, panel to panel etc 4 Confirmation of the delivery location 5 Confirmation of the delivery timescales From this information Excel can provide a full quotation. After a quotation has been received and the customer wishes to move to the next stage, full project details are required, including plans of the building. Alternatively, Excel can carry out a site survey to ensure drawings, cable length and timescales are accurate.
