Bronze Sponsors The Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) is a consortium public entity between the Governments of Spain and the Canary Islands, linked to the Ministry of Finance. It is a low tax zone created within the framework of the Canary Islands Economic and Tax Regime (REF) for the promotion of the economic and social development of the Islands and to diversify their production structure. Keynote Speaker Profiles Albert Essien Group Chief Executive Officer Ecobank Group Albert Essien assumed the role of Group Chief Executive Officer of the Ecobank Group in March 2014. Prior to that he was the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer and Group Executive Director for Corporate and Investment Bank, including Ecobank's international Offices. In a career with Ecobank that spans more than 20 years, Albert Essien has held a number of key appointments, including Regional Head for the rest of Anglophone West Africa and the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) regions. He spearheaded Ecobank's expansion into the ESA, culminating in the establishment of subsidiaries in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia and Malawi and a Representative office in South Africa. He started his banking career with the National Investment Bank in Accra, Ghana. He joined the Corporate Bank department of Ecobank Ghana in 1990. In 1997, he became Country Risk Manager. He was appointed Deputy Managing Director in 2001 and became Managing Director in December 2002. Albert Essien has a degree in Economics from the University of Ghana (graduated in 1979) and is an alumnus of Executive Development Program of INSEAD (France/Singapore). He is also an honorary fellow of the Chartered institute of Bankers, Ghana. Daphne Mashile-Nkosi Chair Kalagadi Manganese (Pty) Ltd Daphne Mashile-Nkosi is the executive chairperson of Kalagadi Manganese, a trustee and chairperson of the Women s Development Bank Trust, a chairperson of Women s Development Bank Investments Holdings (Proprietary) Ltd. She has a strong development background, as an activist on gender and issues concerning poverty. She represents shareholder interests as a director of various companies, including: Interfile, Kalahari Resources, Temoso Holdings, and Metmar Trading (listed on the JSE). She is the chairperson of Bakhazi-Banalima (Proprietary) Limited. She is also a trustee of the FirstRand Empowerment Trust. Daphne Mashile-Nkosi is directly involved in the successful structuring of the Cell C third network operator in South Africa. She started her career as a loan officer with Women s Development Bank Micro Finance in 1990 and is a former detainee, and founder member of Detainees Parents Support Committee. She was active in formation of United Democratic Front and, after the un-banning of the ANC, became the chairperson of the Soweto Sub-region of the Women s League and General Secretary of the Soweto South African Communist Party. Daphne Mashile-Nkosi served on the National Committee of the Women s National Coalition and was involved in the pre-beijing and the post-beijing process. She was active in the formation of Transvaal Rural Action Committee, with a special commitment to support the development and rights of rural women.
