Filters for Email and Internet The district has a filter for the Internet called 86. It blocks websites based on wording found in the URL. For example: If the 86 filter picks up on the word game then it will categorize it as such and block that site. Note: We cannot unblock individual pages of website, it is all or nothing. Much of what is blocked is based on Legislative directive. The district also has a filter for Email. It is called a Spam filter. Email is blocked based on wording in the subject and the sender. We get about 90,000 incoming emails everyday to the district 15,000 are actually legitimate emails. 95% of incoming email are blocked by the Spam filter. If you receive an email that you find inappropriate, simply delete it. If we turn the filter up to block more items, we will end up blocking legitimate emails.
High Access Opened Filter Please read carefully. Thank you. As the saying goes with great access comes great responsibility. High access is here. We need to make sure you are aware of a few key items. 1) What the teacher will see. When a teacher tries to access a website that is blocked, i.e., YouTube, an authentication screen will appear. The teacher will then need to type in their username and password in order for the site to launch. A teacher s authentication username and password is good for 30 minutes. When the teacher navigates to another site after that 30 minutes, they will need to type in their username and password again to access another site that has been blocked. 2) The authentication screen will be displayed not only on the teacher s computer but also on the student s computer. Meaning, if a student logs in and he or she tries to go to YouTube, for example, they will be presented with the authentication screen. The students username and password will NOT allow them access to the website; however, a teachers user and password will. Therefore, the teacher must NEVER authenticate a website by typing in his or her username and password on a student s workstation. 3) Never let a student use the teacher s workstation. 3) All materials accessed from the web MUST be directly correlated to the curriculum. 4) Materials must be reviewed/downloaded prior to it being projected to the class. For example, do NOT go to YouTube while your computer is being projected on the screen. Download the video first then project it to the class. 5) There are sites that are still blocked (porn for example) and will remain blocked. Your username and password will NOT allow you access to these sites.
