VII. Service: 2008-2013 List and illustrate chronology of service and explain in detail Service to the College of Nursing Faculty Advisor for Undergraduate and Graduate Students Faculty Advisor for Graduating Class (3x) Develop of online retention material via SoftChalk Service to the University Faculty Senate (2009 2011) Pantherland Day Dean s Scholarship Reception Service to the Communities of Interest 1. Methodist Hospital Faculty Partnership for Nurse Residency Program This program was established by Methodist as a means to acquire and retain new nursing graduates. It was my role to follow the new graduates accepted into the Nurse Residency program. I would meet with the students assigned to me on a weekly basis to discuss any concerns or problems. The information obtained during student meetings was entered into a database to be utilized later for research projects and programs. See attached documents for details of program, goals and objectives. 2. METI Human Patient Simulation Network I attended the METI conference Feb 18-21 2009 in Tampa Florida. I had the opportunity to answer questions regarding human simulation. 3. Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing I have been a member of Sigma Theta Tau since May 2005. 4. Research Project Classroom Computerized Testing PVAMU College of Nursing
I participated in the literature review for this committee, however project was postponed. 5. Review of Assessments utilized for graduating seniors at Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing. As a result of poor HESI first time score for the Class of May 2008, the Curriculum Development Committee discussed what changes could be made in order to improve student outcomes on first time HESI Exam. It was revealed to me that prior to the HESI exam the students undergo two assessments, the NLN Diagnostic Exam and ATI Comprehensive Medical Surgical Exam. My findings are attached. I believe that there is an opportunity to intervene to improve first time pass on the HESI Exam if an intervention is placed after the NLN and ATI exam scores have been reviewed. After this review, at risk students should be identified and enrolled into a program to review the content in which the student tested weak on the diagnostic assessments. VIII. Summary Provide a brief narrative depicting evidence of qualifications and expertise to serve and contribute in assigned faculty roles to meet the mission, vision and goals of the College of Nursing. I have worked to improve and strengthen my teaching skills for both face to face and online instruction. Recently completed NLN LEAD program, which was beneficial in easing my transition from Lead Instructor to Semester II post graduate (PhD) studies. Currently serve as Chair for Curriculum Committee, in which many documents and reports created to uphold the Mission, Vision, and Goals of the College of Nursing. In fact, under my direction Curriculum Committee recently review and revision of current College of Nursing documents.
