a word of welcome from dunboyne college of further education It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to Dunboyne College of Further Education. All of the courses in Dunboyne College are certified by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC). They are developed and updated in consultation with prospective employers to ensure that they are of the most relevance to our students needs and those of prospective employers. In addition, the qualifications obtained from all the programmes in Dunboyne College of Further Education provide students with the opportunity to progress to further studies at third level. Over recent years we have developed close links with Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, NUI Maynooth, Dublin City University (DCU), DIT and IT Dundalk as well as many other institutions around the country and in the UK. We are confident that this support will be of benefit to our students in the future. This year we are happy to include Tourism and Business and ebusiness as new programmes. This will add to Professional Cookery, Music, Applied Healthcare, Sound Engineering, Computer Applications, Journalism, Multimedia/Computers, Sports Management and Sports Science which we introduced in recent years. Over the last ten years our graduates in Nursing Studies, Applied Social Studies, Business, and the Pre Arts, Pre-Science and Law courses have been very successful in securing places in employment and in the third level sector. We are also delighted to provide a new range of advanced certificates (FETAC Level 6). We welcome applicants of all ages, nationalities and abilities. The friendly, supportive and welcoming atmosphere in the college will ensure that your time with us will be both enjoyable and fulfilling. We hope this prospectus contains a programme which meets your own particular needs. All information contained in this brochure is correct at time of going to print. important note New FETAC Common Awards System New awards at Major and Minor level are now effective within the FETAC system. Every attempt has been made by Dunboyne College to provide current and anticipated Award Titles and course content in this prospectus but it is possible that the published Award Titles and module titles may be altered as current FETAC developments evolve. Students need to familiarise themselves with the appropriate Award and Module titles prior to applying for courses at the college from September 2015. In the event of any doubt, applicants should consult with the FETAC web-site www.fetac.ie. The college cannot be responsible for course alterations that may be required by FETAC or if for any reason due to rationalisation we need to change the content of any of our modules. In line with the development of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance process for Learners FETAC has, since 2009 been developing a Common Awards system for all of its FETAC certified awards. This means that all awards previously issued by FAS, NCVA, Teagasc, and Fáilte Ireland will be issued by FETAC only under Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). 4

course content We are continually updating our course modules to ensure they reflect third level requirements, FETAC course changes and market demands. There are times when the course list under each course has to be altered and sometimes that is after our prospectus goes to print. If there are any changes the modules offered will still lead to the award advertised. In 2015/2016 we hope to offer an elective system whereby each student will be able to add to their core course modules with up to three electives from a list that might include modules like: Maths, Word Processing, Teamwork, Safety and Health at Work, Political Studies, Marketing Practice, Nutrition, Spreadsheet Management, Mathematics, Biology, Irish, Music Performance and so on. mission statement Dunboyne College of Further Education provides access to higher education and career opportunities that enable students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their professional goals. quality assurance Dunboyne College of Further Education is registered with FETAC to offer Quality Assured programmes leading to FETAC awards in the National Framework of Qualifications.
