Safety Procedures Before reading this Application Note, please refer to the section on Safety Procedures in the Barak User's Manual. About this Application Note The document gives instructions on how to configure the Barak and Caldera network settings. Barak and Caldera Network Setup Hardware Connections Barak PC Settings Each of the Barak and the Caldera PCs has two network cards installed. In addition, two network cables are supplied by Matan. One cable connects the Barak PC to the Controller or to the Backlit Cameras (if installed). The other cable connects the Barak PC to the Caldera PC. Barak PC Network Cards Settings 1. In the Barak PC, click START, SETTINGS, and then NETWORK CONNECTIONS. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 2 of 17
2. Double-click the CONTROLLER CARD and click PROPERTIES. 3. Select the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list and click PROPERTIES. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 3 of 17
4. Enter the following IP address and click O.K. Network Card I (Connected to the Controller) IP Address (static): 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 4 of 17
5. Click OK and close the PROPERTIES dialog box. 6. Repeat steps 2 5 for the CALDERA NETWORK CARD, with the following IP address. Network Card II (Connected to the Caldera PC) IP Address (static): 172.16.12.10 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 5 of 17
Creating a Sharing Folder The input folder is a shared folder on the Barak's PC, where all the RIPped files will be saved 1. On the C: drive, create a new folder named INPUT. 2. Right-click the folder and select SHARING AND SECURITY. 3. From the SHARING tab, choose the SHARE THIS FOLDER option. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 6 of 17
4. Click the ALLOW NETWORK USERS TO CHANGE MY FILES option. 5. Click OK. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 7 of 17
Caldera PC Settings Caldera PC Network Cards Settings 1. On the Caldera PC, click START and select SYSTEM SETTINGS. 2. Click the NETWORK SETTINGS icon. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 8 of 17
3. Click ADMINISTRATOR MODE. 4. When prompted, enter the password (caldera). The system detects two network cards eth0 (which should be connected to the Barak printer) and eth1 (which should be connected to the file server). 5. Double-click eth0 to open it and choose the MANUAL option. 6. Enter the following IP address. IP Address: 7. Click OK. 8. Double-click eth1 to open it and choose the AUTOMATIC option or enter a static IP address provided by your site network manager. Network Card II (Connected to the Site Ethernet) DHCP or Static IP from site network manager 9. Click OK. 10. Open the ROUTES tab and make sure that the DEFAULT GATEWAY IP ADDRESS field is clear. 11. Mounting the Input Folder from the Caldera PC So that you can see the Barak Input Shared folder from the Caldera PC, you need to mount it. 1. Make sure that the Barak PC is turned ON and then restart the Caldera PC. 2. On Caldera's main screen, click Smb4K. 3. To search for connected computers, click SCAN NETWORK. If the PC cannot be found, open the SEARCH DIALOG tab and enter the static IP address of the Barak PC. 4. In the left section of the Smb4K screen, double-click the Barak PC icon and then the Input folder. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 11 of 17
5. A hard-disk icon appears in the right section of the Smb4K screen. The folder is now mounted. 6. To mount the file server, repeat steps 3 5, but in step 4, remember to click the icon for the relevant PC. 7. Select the icons for the mounted folders and from the BOOKMARKS menu, select ADD BOOKMARK. Configuring the Input Folder as the Default Folder for RIPped Files 1. From the SETTINGS tab on Caldera's main screen, click SERVERADMIN. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 12 of 17
The SERVERS ADMINISTRATION window appears. 2. From the SERVERS ADMINISTRATION window, choose the BarakHS Printer and click CONFIGURE. 3. Open the FILES tab and click the ROOT's field browse button. The FILE SELECTION window appears. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 13 of 17
4. In the File Selection window, click the Go to Parent Directory until you arrive at the "/" directory. 5. Double-click MNT/. 6. Double-click BARAK-XXXX. 7. Double-click INPUT. 8. Click OPEN. 10100112A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 14 of 17
