Under the umbrella of Fontys Technology and business (FTB) bachelors the following completely English taught programs will be offered from August 2014: Electrical & Electronic Physics Industrial & Management Information & Communication Technology Eindhoven Venlo Logistics Management Mechanical Mechatronics campus Venlo 02 03
Characteristics for all programs: FTB Programs You choose an initial FTB program that attracts you most You start with a joint program of 1 period (=± 9 weeks). In this program you will study general technology related subjects but you will also get in touch with specific topics of several other FTB programs After 1 period you make a final choice for the program that suits you best (based on achieved results, interests and motivation). This will prevent that you make a wrong choice. You will develop your intercultural competences You will experience real-life assignments during 2 internships in international companies You are opting for a future (inter) national career in Technology and/or Business in the Brainport Region FTB programs have a clear and transparent structure with about 20 lectures per educational week. Students are placed in year groups which do not change, all learning modules are given by qualified teachers. Each student will receive support and advice from a personal Study Counsellor. As an international student you will develop excellent skills in the chosen study field and you will develop your abilities to interact effectively with people from other cultures and countries. The Bachelor-Master structure The FTB Bachelor programs at Fontys University of Applied Sciences are practical-based university programmes. Over a period of four years, you develop excellent professional skills and acquire the knowledge you need for your future profession. After obtaining your degree, you may bear the title bachelor of science (Bsc). The majority of graduated bachelors join the labour market especially in the Brainport Region, but further study in a master program - either in the Netherlands or abroad is another possibility. Scholarships Talented* non-eeu students who start their bachelor education at FTB programs may be eligible for Top Talent Scholarships of 1.600,- * talented means : You must have achieved excellent study results with an average mark of 75% or higher for the science-related subjects in your last received education. Visit our website for more information: www.fontys.edu/technologyandbusiness Loan for EU- and EEA students As from September 1st, 2007 EU/EEA students who are not entitled to full funding of their studies for a higher-educational course in the Netherlands are entitled to part of the funding of the studiefinanciering, namely the loan tuition fees. The loan tuition fees is a monthly loan intended specifically for the payment of the tuition fees. You repay the loan starting two years after your graduation. All FTB programs are 4-year English taught bachelor programs. In the first and second year you will study theoretical and practical subjects (included projects) in the study field of your choice. See next pages for the contents of the 1st and 2nd year. In the third year you will take part in the first internship period in an (inter)national company and the minor program is scheduled. You can choose freely what minor you want to do. For example, you can choose a specialization program in your study field or a totally different program at another university either in the Netherlands or abroad. It is even possible to do a pre-master program at University of Technology Eindhoven (TU/e). In year 4 you will first do a specialization program and you will finally do your graduation project in a company. Internships can be done in the Netherlands (especially the Brainport Region) or abroad. Students who have performed excellent during the first year of study at Fontys will be offered the opportunity to take part in EXCELLENCE-programs. Nowadays you will find software in almost every device, from a television to a heart-defribilator and from a watch to an elevator. Within our Bachelor programme ICT & Technology we focus on writing software for all of these devices. You will learn about the complete software life cycle: Translate the requirements from future users into a software design Implement the software design with a programming language (e.g. in C# ) Test the code and write user manuals We will train you to become an expert in software development, especially in the so-called embedded software. This programme leads to the International Bachelor degree Information & Communication Technology. With your knowledge you will be able to find a job very easily in a technology-oriented, international company in the Netherlands. What will you do at ICT & Technology? In the first year the programme is the same as for the students who choose ICT & Software. 2nd year of study In the second year in depth software engineering subjects are given, like: Programming in C# Programming in C Object Oriented Design Embedded Software Client Server Application Operating Systems Logistics Management (Venlo) Carrying something from A to B. That sounds very simple but there is more to it than you think. For example: at the time that the ipad version is ready for sale, many logistics processes had to be done first. Think of the various components that had to be collected from all over the world. So if you are an organizer and you can handle well with people, Logistics is a logical choice. Logistics Management Bachelor program leads to the degree of Bachelor of (Bsc). What will you do at Logistics management? (propaedeutic phase) During the first year of study you learn what Logistics management is about. You are involved in projects which are supported by typical Logistics related subjects like: Supply chain management Warehouse and material handling In the second year in depth Logistics management subjects are given and you can choose from several specializations. Some of the themes you are involved in are: distribution, (re)design of a production environment and transport of goods and data flow. Mechanical From oil rigs to the plastics industry, from pythons in amusement parks to devices and machines, everywhere you will meet Mechanical engineers. He is an all-rounder with a technical background. A designer, who also knows how processes work. Mechanical engineers focus on designing, making and placing on the market of equipment, installations and machinery. They make things better. Do you want to make for example a machine more energy efficient? Or ensure that a production process produces less waste? With Mechanical you are going to make it! The Bachelor program Mechanical leads to the degree of Bachelor of (Bsc). 08 09
What will you do at Mechanical? During the first year of study you learn what Mechanical is about. You are involved in projects which are supported by typical Mechanical related subjects like: Construction and mechanics Physics Measurement Control and modeling Communication and presentation techniques In laboratories you practice technical skills such as dealing with machines and milling, welding and turning. Also practicing with drawing programs, working with 3D equipment, modeling and simulation are parts of your studies. As from the second year you expand your knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering. This is called the core phase of the program. Some subjects of the 2nd year are: Energy & process Modelling & simulation Production techniques Materials science. Projects About one third of the bachelor programs Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical and Mechatronics consists of projects that you perform with fellow students. Just like in real companies. Project work already starts in the first year. A project has an average of six students. You learn how to work together in a team, working methodically, creative thinking and social-communicative. Project assignments are taken from industry and are called Expo and IPD. Mechatronics A DVD player, a lift, a production robot, a robot arm, a car. They all work on an engine, so that they can move independently. Without mechatronics they would not exist, or they would be much more expensive. Mechatronics is a combination of electrical & electronic engineering, mechanical engineering and ICT & technology. In this bachelor program, you are a thinker and a doer. You consider how you can create safer and more userfriendly devices. Don t forget: you will be the designer! The Bachelor program Mechatronics leads to the degree of Bachelor of (Bsc). From design to making a robot: the bachelor program Mechatronics has a focus on robotics and control technology. What will you do at Mechatronics? (propaedeutic phase) During the first year of study you learn what Mechatronics is about.
