1 Building Services BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING, B.SC. (ENG.) 240 ECTS cr (4 years) Option HVAC Engineering Persons studying for an engineer degree in the Option of HVAC Engineering can specialise in HVAC planning, contracting, building maintenance or building automation in their third year of study. Professional studies cover topics such as heating and energy technology, indoor climate and ventilation technology, cooling technology, water supply and sewerage technology and building automation. Issues connected with HVAC equipment and processes are taught in a modern special laboratory and with reference to systems in use in actual properties. HVAC engineering duties require sound knowledge of information technology. The studies also include design practice using the most sophisticated three-dimensional design software. Students specialising in contracting or building maintenance carry out a study entity of 30 ECTS credits in companies, in which the students are taught and tutored by the teachers and company representatives in cooperation. All students conduct their Bachelor s Thesis on a topic provided by the business sector. Graduates of the degree programme can work in planning, project management, supervision and client duties in building services. Furthermore, they can work in management duties involving the use and maintenance of HVAC systems in buildings, and they can also expect employment in product development as well as sales and marketing duties in industry that manufactures HVAC equipment and in related expert and teaching duties. The language of teaching is mainly Finnish. However, due to the increased international cooperation, there are also specifically tailored project and study possibilities in English for international students. The Degree Programme in Building Services also includes small-scale measuring services, condition surveys, and research projects that may last several years. 2 Information Technology and Telecommunications BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (BEng) 240 ECTS credits (4 years) Options: Electronics Design and Testing Software Development Wireless Telecommunications The Degree Programme in Information Technology and Telecommunications educates its students for the needs of international working life. Students become engineers that have the kind of skills and flexibility needed in the rapidly changing field. The graduates work in R&D, product design and management. Furthermore, entrepreneurship is encouraged. The studies introduce students to the basics of information technology. Depending upon the subject selections, the students acquire deeper knowledge of such topics as software development, embedded systems, microelectronics, telecommunications and RF-technology or measurement and testing technologies. In addition, studies enhance team work, leadership and communication skills. The language of teaching is mainly Finnish. However, due to the increased international cooperation, there are also project and specifically tailored study possibilities in English for international students. Graduates of the Option of Electronics Design and Testing have knowledge about the principles and product design of electronics, as well as the reliability, quality and testability of electronic circuits. The particular focus is on the design and testing of application-specific integrated circuits. Students may also focus on testing technologies in the electronics industry. The option covers the areas of testing systems of electronics production and telecommunication measurements. Graduates work as product designers and specialists on measurement and testing systems. The Option of Software Development provides the students with skills in computer technology and programming languages. Students specialise in the development of embedded and mobile software and are introduced to the most common software development tools and procedures. The focus is on the special requirements of the design and testing of real-time software and the integrating of microprocessors into Embedded Systems. Students of the Option of Wireless Telecommunications are familiar with telecommunications systems and applications. The studies contain the basics of transmission technology, digital signal processing and data security. The focus is on wireless telecommunication networks, computer networks and on RF design methods. Graduates obtain skills required for working in the field of telecommunications and face the challenge of being future mobile technology experts. (Eng.) 240 ECTS cr (4 years) Options Home Care Technology Hospital Technology Oulu region is strongly engaged in the development of well-being technology and business. The Degree Programme in Medical Engineering responds to the development challenges and provides expertise of the field, aiming at educating internationally competent actors who recognise the potential technology within the social and health care. Graduates of this programme are experts in information technology while also being familiar with functions of the social and health-care sector. Students of this programme are provided with basic understanding of the crucial concepts such as well-being, human-technology interaction as well as health and functional capacity of humans. Furthermore, the degree programme includes studies in mathematics, natural sciences, communication, social sciences, entrepreneurship and international cooperation. 4 Laboratory Sciences BACHELOR OF LABORATORY SERVICES 210 ECTS cr (3,5 years) Options Biotechnology Laboratory Analytics The Degree Programme in Laboratory Sciences responds to the challenges of the changing society and internationalisation in the laboratory sector. Graduates of the programme are employed in demanding quality control, product development, research, production expert and laboratory supervisor duties in industry, research institutes and public administration. Furthermore, the laboratory sector offers work opportunities in sales and marketing duties. Students of this degree programme master varied chemical, physical and biological research methods and attain good teamwork and problem solving skills. Responsibility for the environment and the importance of quality in laboratory work are emphasised throughout the studies. The language of teaching is mainly Finnish. Options Energy Technology Machine Automation Engineering Production Economics Electronics Production Vehicle and Transportation Engineering The objective of the degree programme is to educate engineers that, in addition to their other skills, have a good knowledge of production development and its various tools. The studies provide skills in electronic and automation systems connected with mechanics as well as expenditures, quality control and foreign languages needed in this profession. Furthermore, the studies are carried out in close co-operation with local companies. The graduates work in diverse positions in the field of technology. (ENG.) 240 ECTS cr (4 years) Option Project Engineering Automation engineering deals with the automatic control of devices, machines and processes. It is an interdisciplinary field of study that is extensively utilised by production industry. Students of this degree programme are familiar with different automation applications such as process industry, automatic production lines, power station processes and ocean liner control systems. The graduates have created successful careers in different kinds of project duties as well as in product development and planning positions in national and international markets. Newly graduated automation engineers often find work in the field of automation design, working for different design agencies and under more experienced designers. (Eng) 60 ECTS cr (2 3 years) Options Structural Engineering Building Construction and Renovation Construction Technology and Management Environmental and Municipal Engineering Construction Technology and Management offers courses in design, management and leadership related to construction projects and production. The studies in the Option of Environmental and Municipal Engineering, in turn, qualify the students for research, design and implementation duties in road and transport projects. Students of this option may also work in water supply, hydraulic engineering as well as in water and environmental projects. Furthermore, students gain skills in assessing the environmental impacts caused by construction. Bachelor studies The Degree Programme in Civil Engineering qualifies students to work as civil engineers in national as well as international construction industry. All teaching is practically oriented, providing students with skills needed in working life. Graduates of this degree programme work in fields of design, management, research & development as well as in sales and marketing. The extensive education scheme lends itself to students with different inclinations from mathematics experts to sales specialists. In the Option of Structural Engineering, the focus is on skills required for designing, planning and implementing building structures. 8 oamk.fi Master Studies Master of Engineering, MSc (Eng) 60 ECTS cr (2 3 years) The Master s Degree Programme in Civil Engineering is planned to meet the development needs of working life and can be completed in all the options of Civil Engineering: Structural Engineering; Building Construction and Renovation; Construction Technology and Management as well as Environmental and Municipal Engineering. Persons with a postgraduate degree are educated to work in demanding expert, development and management duties in their special fields. The studies are individually tailored according to the student s personal development needs and the needs of the employer. The scope of the degree is 60 ECTS (30 ECS cr theory and 30 ECTS cr Master s thesis) and the studies can be completed in two years.
