La Sierra University's state- approved multiple subjects teacher education program prepares candidates to teach in elementary schools with a preliminary teaching credential from the State of California. The preliminary credential is valid for 5 years, during which time the individual should work toward completing the professional clear credential, which can be earned at La Sierra. After completing requirements for the preliminary teaching credential and becoming hired for full- time classroom teaching, an individual may choose a subsequent program of study offering coursework and mentorship for the professional clear credential. In La Sierra University's teacher education program, all preliminary credential candidates, whether preparing for state or SDA credentials, are expected to complete all state requirements for teacher education.
