Introduction The Department of Health, Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs (BDAP), in collaboration with Early Intervention Technical Assistance, is pleased to distribute this directory of drug and alcohol programs that offer specialized service(s) to Women, Pregnant Women, and Women with Children. This directory identifies licensed programs that provide gender-sensitive drug and alcohol treatment and services. The directory is organized by the type of service provided (i.e. Halfway House, Outpatient) as well as by the county in which the facility is located. Among the many unique features of gender-sensitive programs is the link between treatment provided to mothers and services provided to their children. These services, traditionally rendered in the long-term residential setting, are now offered across the continuum of care. At the outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial levels of care, age appropriate prevention programs are frequently provided on-site while mothers are in counseling and/or group therapy sessions. In programs that are responsive to the needs of this population, therapeutic interventions for children are made available on site or by referral through cooperative agreements with other agencies. Due to the fluid nature of drug and alcohol treatment programs, it is difficult to maintain a current listing. Anyone seeking services should consult their local Single County Authority (SCA) to determine treatment program availability and eligibility for services. Services are provided to women who may be pregnant, single or with children. A mother can bring up to two children under the age of 12. The goals of the program are as follows: recovery maintenance, employment, schooling, establishing independent living, parenting skills and interpersonal growth skills. Issues addressed include relationships, parenting, shame and guilt, codependency, vocational skills, daily living skills. Services provided are: peer groups, therapy groups, educational groups, domestic violence groups, responsibility, assertiveness and life skills, such as resume writing, interview skills and budgeting. ADDITIONAL SERVICES: The Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient programs offer organized treatment services which provide structured psychoeducational tracks and client stability through therapeutic activity, individualized treatment planning, and life skills education, including parenting skills. Adult women receive a minimum of two groups weekly: one is a women-only on-going group addressing abuse, sexuality, parenting, healthcare, co-dependency; the other is one of a series of education-process groups on relevant recovery life-management topics, including relationships, stress management, spirituality, nutrition and leisure, etc. Additionally, individual sessions are provided either weekly or bi-weekly to increase opportunities for discussion of individual issues. Adolescent females are offered a series of age-appropriate education-process groups in a coed manner while weekly individual sessions address more sensitive issues of abuse, sexuality, etc. Access to both programs is through an assessment provided by CCDAEC's Case Management office.
