SECTION 23 05 12 GENERAL PROVISIONS FOR HVAC WORK 1 GENERAL 1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. This Section is coordinated with and complementary to the General Conditions and Supplementary General Conditions of the Work, wherever applicable to Mechanical Work. B. Section 01 31 46 - Special Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Work shall apply. 1.2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK INCLUDED A. Work included in the project is to be executed in two phases described in the documents as Phase IIA and Phase IIB. B. The time frame for Phase IIA will be on or about May 20 through August 15th, 2014 and the time frame for Phase IIB will be on or about May 20 through August 15 th 2015. Contractor must be de-mobilized and leave the job site on the ending date of the work period. Only closing, administrative tasks may continue beyond the closing date of each the phases. C. There are essentially 3 tasks to be completed in both phases: replace existing dual temperature risers replace existing fan coils with new controls general construction as required to open existing ceilings, walls, shafts, surfaces to be reconstructed, surfaces to match existing. Phase IIA includes the replacement of half of the risers with associated fan coils and air handlers. Phase IIB includes the replacement of the remainder of the risers with associated fan coils and the condenser water riser. D. Work Included: 1. The work includes providing all labor, materials, equipment, accessories, services and tests necessary to complete and make ready for operation by the Owner, all Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Work as shown on the Drawings and hereinafter specified, including, but not limited to the following: a. Replacement dual temp risers. b. All motor starters and controllers for equipment furnished by this Contractor. Packaged type units shall be furnished completely prewired with panels mounted on the units as specified. All other motor starters and controllers will be turned over to the Electrical Contractor for installation and wiring. c. Filters in Fan Coils. d. Fan Coils. e. Accessories such as thermostats, pressure gauges. The Fashion Institute of Technology Page 23 0512-1

f. Vibration isolation equipment (integral to Fan Coils. g. Piping, fittings, and valves. h. Sheet metal ductwork and accessories such as dampers, access doors, etc. for a ceiling mounted fan coil in Vestibule. i. Pipe, duct and equipment insulation. j. Temperature Control for Fan Coil Units : A complete system of temperature control shall be installed in connection with the HVAC systems, including all thermostats, control valves, damper motors and dampers for the outdoor air intakes and fan discharges. All control wiring for automatic temperature controls, including interlocking wiring for fc fans, etc. by this Contractor. k. Painting and pipe, duct and equipment identification for all work by this Contractor is previously specified under "Special Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Work". l. Test and balancing. m. Sleeves, pipe inserts and anchor bolts, escutcheons, etc., as hereinafter specified. n. Identification, name plates, tags and charts. o. Cutting and rough patching. p. Furnishing of starters and motor control devices as specified under "Special Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Work". q. Templates and anchor bolts for equipment bases, balancing of water and air systems. r. Removal, relocation and/or demolition of existing HVAC work in conjunction with the existing buildings in order to erect the new buildings as indicated on the Contract Drawings. s. All demolition work associated with HVAC systems. 1.3 WORK INCLUDED IN THIS PROJECT BUT MAY BE UNDER OTHER SECTIONS OF THE SPECIFICATIONS A. The following work is also included under other Sections of the Specifications: 1. Opening and closure of wall chases for pipe as shown on the Arch. drawings. 2. Modifications of pipe covers. 3. Outside air inlets, exhaust outlets, louvers and screens through walls, and elsewhere are existing as noted on the Drawings. Motorized dampers furnished and installed under this Contract. 4. Structural slab in a shaft. 5. Power wiring for all motors except where otherwise noted. 6. Setting of access doors furnished by this Contractor. 7. Removal and reinstallation of wall covers for piping run- outs to fan coils. 8. All motor disconnect switches, except where in combination starters and where otherwise noted. 9. Access doors in ceiling and walls. 10. Finish patching painting. 11. Wiring of switches, aquastats, pressure controls in power circuit of cabinet and unit heaters. 12. Mounting of all starters and motor control devices: Division 26. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Perform work in accordance with quality established in Section 01 31 46 "Special Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Work", and hereinafter specified. All work performed shall comply with local codes. 1.5 SUBMITTALS A. Submit shop drawings covering the following items: 1. Coordination drawings. 2. Internal cleaning and treating of piping. 3. Sleeve penetration drawings. 4. Identification schedule and samples. 5. Expansion joints, anchors and guides, including details of installation. 6. Schedule of ductwork, joints, gauges, supports, flexible connections, fire dampers, access doors, etc. 7. Schedule of piping and fitting materials. The Fashion Institute of Technology Page 23 0512-3

8. Piping shop drawings. 9. Schedule of valves, strainers, vacuum breakers. 10. Thermometers and pressure gauges. 11. Schedule of pipe and ductwork supports, including inserts, escutcheons, etc. 12. Heating systems, including fan coils, etc., as specified. 13. Water treatment for cleaning operations. 14. Schedule of insulation types and samples of each type. 15. Templates for equipment bases. 16. Acoustic material. 17. Air vents, air separators, water strainers, reducing and safety valves for water systems. 18. Automatic Temperature Control System associated w/fan coils. B. All shop drawings being submitted that include electrical work shall be submitted with all internal and external wiring diagrams. C. The previously listed items are major equipment and do not limit this Division's responsibility to submit shop drawings for all equipment and accessories which are to be provided under this Division of the Specifications. 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 SPARE PARTS A. Filters: 1. The Contractor shall furnish a minimum of one complete spare filter sets for each fan coil unit. B. Control valves & thermostats: 1. Two spare control valves and thermostats for each type of the unit. 2.1 LIST OF MANUFACTURERS A. The manufacturer's name appearing first on this list is the manufacturer the project design was based upon. However, the additional manufacturers listed herein are also acceptable with the provision that they meet the requirements of these Specifications, ratings, and/or space allocations listed in the Specifications or shown on the Drawings.
