www.lewisu.edu/ StudentTalk Allysha Jones, Nursing Major Transfer from College of DuPage Allysha transferred to Lewis University from the College of DuPage to enroll in the University s highly-praised and well-known nursing program. After looking up pass rates for the NCLEX exam, she saw that Lewis had one of the highest ratings in the state. After hearing from several industry professionals how great the nursing program was, I knew it was an easy choice, said Allysha. Allysha feels her nursing program is providing an incredible learning experience. It s not only class work, but real life experiences. We first learn basic skills in a lab and classroom setting, then continue our education through clinical and professional development courses, Allysha explains. Professionalism and communication are major components of the program, which she feels gives Lewis nursing students an advantage over other new graduates. Allysha really enjoys the camaraderie between her classmates in the nursing program. Instead of competing to be the best, everyone is willing to help each other. She says, We all share the same common goal that we can t wait to reach. After graduation, Allysha would like to be a med-surge nurse to get a good foundation and then move to something more specialized like labor and delivery. One day she would love to work with the government in disaster relief nursing to help those in need. 6 lewisu.edu/transfer

It s not only class work, but real life experiences. Meet Allysha 7

www.lewisu.edu/ StudentTalk Joseph Ledger, Broadcast Journalism Major Transfer from Moraine Valley Community College Joseph Ledger transferred to Lewis University because of the great insights from his brother, a former Broadcast Journalism major at Lewis University. My brother told me of all the great things about Lewis, from the professors and classes, to the overall close-knit community, Joseph explained. As a Broadcast Journalism major, Joseph loves the hands-on experience Lewis offers their students. With the WLRA all-digital radio station on campus, students are scheduled for their first radio show during the first week of class. Joseph credits the Broadcast Journalism program for support in his transfer process. All of my classmates and professors have been so accepting and willing to help. This is definitely a plus for transfer students who are worried about the transition from community colleges to larger universities, Joe explains. Joseph is passionate about communicating with people. Something he enjoys about the Mass Communications field is being able to write and vocalize your message across various platforms. After graduation, Joseph would like to become a sports radio host or a sports journalist for a successful news company in the Chicago region. 10 lewisu.edu/transfer
