PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES FROM YOUR BOARD Chairperson At the beginning of this term I had a very ambitious prospectus or wish-list. As it turns out, I must be one of the luckiest Chairs on record to have such determined and committed board members. This year we have seen marked involvement not only from the board, but the districts and members themselves. Our Alateen program has grown in leaps and bounds. District 69 is assisting with an all new fundraiser that promises to be a hit! Our website has been completely renovated and the Intercom is now available on-line. This sense of forward thinking has been crucial in our growth and survival and for the opportunity of generations to come. Thank you to all who are so generous in providing their time and efforts. Without your experience, strength and hope, we would not be in the position of helping others today! When I make a commitment through service, I really am making a commitment to myself. Hope for Today, pg.160 Public Information Al-Anon will be hosting a literature table at the 16th International Conference on Violence, Abuse and Trauma at the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, 500 Hotel Circle North, San Diego. Institutions opportunity Salvation Army on Wednesday evening at 7:30-8:30 pm; two people on the 3 rd Wednesday and two people for the 4 th Wednesday.. Service Works for Me SERVICE CORNER Service has been an important part of my recovery. Many years ago someone in first home group asked me if I would set out the literature and my thought was, I can do that. Being the responsible Al-Anon that I am, I was there every week to do my job. Soon came other positions at the group level in various meetings, which kept me coming back. I served beyond the group level as an IGR, a GR and then on the Service Board, each time with the thought, I can do that. My husband died suddenly toward the end of my first year on the Board and I was ready to resign, but somehow I found myself standing for Chair and once again thinking, I can do that. Serving as your Board Chair last year was a wonderful experience and gave me something else to focus on, despite the chaos of my personal life. A similar scenario was repeated in April, as I found myself agreeing to be Chair-elect for the San Diego Spring Round Up. I am grateful for the trust Al-Anon has shown me in allowing me to fulfill these commitments. Service has been a valuable tool, helping me grow in this fellowship, meet many new friends and learn to live life on life s terms. Elections for the Service Board are coming soon. If you have attended meetings for at least two years and Al-Anon is your primary program, I urge you to say, I can do that! and consider running for the Service Board. 5
