PRACTICAL INFORMATION & FRAME PROGRAM Norwegian Business Delegation San Francisco On the occasion of the visit of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit 07-10 May 2013 Organized by

PRACTICAL INFORMATION AND FRAME PROGRAM California is among the most important innovation areas in the world where human talent, intellectual capital and educational infrastructure meet. Silicon Valley is a brand name that has been associated with innovation and technology, and the universities of Stanford and Berkeley are cradles of new knowledge. The visit of Their Royal Highnesses, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to the San Francisco Bay area will attract increased awareness from US companies and organizations and give Norwegian companies a unique opportunity to establish new and strengthen old relations in the area. The attached program has pin-pointed some of the areas of importance for US-Norwegian collaboration. We are pleased to announce that Stanford University is co-hosting seminar activities with us on Wednesday, May 8 th. The participants interested in the technology portion of the business delegation will be able to take part in customized seminars and meetings in these fields: Education Technology (EdTech), IT Security, Advanced Technology focusing on the next generation usage of automation and robotics, and Big Data and the Data Center Revolution. These are important focus areas for both Silicon Valley and Norway driven by the emergence of new technologies offering opportunities and possibilities for many aspects of business. Education tech is an emerging field in Silicon Valley thanks to major funding initiatives in 2012. The digital future of education has not yet been defined but top universities like Stanford are building it now. Participants interested in learning about and exploring business opportunities within the future of digital education will be pleased to find this in the program. IT Security is a critical topic in Silicon Valley as mobile, social, cloud, and big data are all creating tectonic shifts within industry and government markets. This track will focus both on national issues and within organizations to enable safer operation of critical infrastructure. It will also give insights into the IT security market in the US, what the focus is, including current investment trends in this field. Advanced tech with the next generation usage of automation and robotics is a rapidly emerging area of interest in Silicon Valley and some even call this "The Next Industrial Revolution". The focus of this seminar is to share knowledge and insights while exploring future innovation and areas of collaboration between Silicon Valley and Norway. Big data is changing the data center industry. This track includes keynotes from major Silicon Valley-based ICT companies as well as presentations from Norwegian startups. Norway is Europe s largest producer of hydroelectricity, and production of renewables is increasing. This will lead to a state most other countries can only dream of: a surplus of renewable energy. Norway is also a highly productive country, thanks mainly to advanced use of ICT in all areas of society. These two trends meet in the green data centers that will enable the ICT sector to radically and affordably reduce its carbon footprint.
