Infra FINBIM the main Objective In 2014, major infra-sector clients procure only BIM based services, in all project phases from early planning and design to maintenance and operation Members of Infra FINBIM Year 2010 30.11.2011 Page 5
Work Targets The target of the work package is to identify, study and collaboratively remove barriers that have so far held back uptake and development of BIM based business processes (civil engineering). The goal is systemic change, from traditional sub- optimization in each project phase to smart BIM based service provision in all life-cycle operations, in all disciplines and by all actors. Impact of the change will be substantial productivity improvement in design, construction and maintenance, with new practices as well as better collaboration and mutual understanding between stakeholders. 30.11.2011 Page 6
INFRA FINBIM: SUB WORK PACKAGES 1 Procurement methods (WSP, Antti Karjalainen) Procurement methods in different design, construction and maintenance phases to utilize information models. im mpulse 2 Interfaces and standards (Sito Oy, Juha Liukas) Terms and dictionaries, interfaces and information delivery methods development and use in projects. 3 New design and construction processes (Lemminkäinen Infra Oy, Tapani Toivanen) Content of design models and as-built information (for QC); definition and development of common processes to enable BIM based services. 30.11.2011 Page 7

How to Achieve the Goals? Infra FINBIM output will be guidance and requirements for product modeling. InfraBIM-project will publish guidelines and requirements. Before publishing all guidelines and reguirements will be tested by real case pilots. Research partners will collect and collate the pilots experiencies. 30.11.2011 Page 9
An Example Specific Determinations for Product Modeling of Roads Determined by Destia Oy Key Idea: Design work has done using the accepted modeling method, which assures that the output can directly be utilized in 3-D machine control systems. Currently under testing ti in Pilot Projects Rauno Heikkilä OY 30.11.2011 Page 10
Infra FINBIM Active Pilot Projects RAILWAY YARD BIM Development of BIM based railway design and modeling Jorvas, Kirkkonummi coordinated Finnish Transport Agency VT8-BIM Promoting information modeling and automation to new highway construction ti Sepänkylä Highway, total length 8 km coordinated by Finnish Transport Agency Maintenance BIM Development of BIM based road maintenance and rehabilitation Several part pilots coordinated by NCC Roads Rauno Heikkilä OY 30.11.2011 Page 11
A Key for Success: Open Information Transfer WP2 Interfaces and standards to develop the information interfaces and transfer methods Information is saved and transferred as structural information models, also a known open format is used in practical transfers Open is based on the international standards (LandXML, GML, IFC, ), Finland s more detailed present specification is called Inframodel2, needs continuous development The whole infra industry in the market follows and uses the common working ways and specified methods 30.11.2011 Page 12
Conclusion the BIM Change is our Common Challenge Rauno Heikkilä OY A large R&D Program is active in Finland The key is in collaborative research and development, i.e., how to make the systemic change Infra FINBIM has gathered a strong development group in Finland InfraFINBIM is looking for strong international collaboration with especially Northern Countries The Northern Countries could together have the best practices and be BIM leaders in the World. 30.11.2011 Page 13
