quick facts meridian community college ABOUT MCC Meridian Community College was founded in 1937 through the initiative of the local municipal school system. The campus is located in the heart of Meridian, Mississippi. Known as the arts and entertainment hub, the birthplace of Jimmie Rodgers, home of the historic Dentzel Carousel, host of the annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival and the setting of numerous plays, concerts, shows and more, Meridian offers something for everyone to enjoy. ACCREDITATION Meridian Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the Associate in Arts and the Associate of Applied Science degrees. HONORS COLLEGE The Honors College at MCC will challenge you to go beyond the ordinary ideas about school, your own expectations and yourself. You will become an independent learner and become a leader. The MCC Honors College will provide you with the necessary encouragement and assistance to grow. Admission to the Honors College is competitive. Successful applicants are offered admission based on a combination of performance on standardized tests (ACT/SAT), high school academic record, evidence of creativity and leadership and relative strength of the applicant pool. Generally, the minimum criteria for consideration are 23 ACT (math subscore of 19 or higher and all other sub-scores 18 or higher) and 3.5 core high school grade point average. Orientation is a campus event designed to prepare you for a successful transition to life at Meridian Community College. New students are introduced to campus services and resources, and time is allotted for questions regarding financial aid and campus housing. Additionally, new students are guided through their first academic advisement and course registration experience. All new degree-seeking students are required to attend an orientation session. The Office of Recruiting will communicate with you regarding the details of reserving a spot at orientation. MCC Gold (Honors) Orientation (ACT score of 21 or higher): April Fall Semester Orientation: May, June, July, August Spring Semester Orientation: Online LLS 1311 ORIENTATION All first-time students will be enrolled in a one-credit hour course that is designed to help you adjust to college life. It includes a study of personal and social adjustments and gives you guidance in collegiate life. This course is offered on campus and online and is a great tool for being a successful student at MCC.

get funded FINANCIAL AID Financial aid, student employment opportunities and convenient payment options combine to make your educational experience affordable. MCC participates in a variety of financial aid programs in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and part-time employment to eligible students. Students attending MCC are encouraged to apply for financial aid. Financial aid consists of both college-sponsored and government loans and grants. APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID To be considered for any type of financial aid, you must first submit an admissions application to the Office of Admissions. To be considered for any type of scholarship, you must submit a scholarship application to the scholarship coordinator. Scholarship applications should reach the scholarship coordinator s office by April. TUITION GUARANTEE The MCC Foundation underwrites the cost of tuition for four semesters of study at MCC for any graduate of a Meridian or Lauderdale County high school or any person residing in Lauderdale County who is homeschooled. By enrolling in the fall following their spring graduation, students retain the Tuition Guarantee for four consecutive semesters provided they earn a 2.00 grade point average and take a full-time course load of credit hours each semester. Students must apply for Federal Financial Aid. Requirements may change yearly. FEDERAL AID www.fafsa.ed.gov Priority Application Deadline: March 15 MCC Federal School Code: 002413 MISSISSIPPI STUDENT AID www.mississippi.edu/riseupms The State of Mississippi offers a variety of grants and scholarships to Mississippi students pursing higher education, from programs for students seeking specific educational goals (such as nursing or teaching) to programs based on academic merit like the Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) and the Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grants (MESG). HOUSING FAQ When do I have to have my application and deposit turned in? MCC housing is based on first come, first served. Fall housing fills quickly, so it is advised that you have your deposit and application in before June. Will my scholarships and grants pay for housing? Yes, financial aid payment options for housing are available. You are responsible for meeting with financial aid and the business office for all financial information. How many credit hours do I have to be enrolled in? All housing students must be enrolled in the minimum credit hours, as set forth by residence life, at all times throughout the semester to stay in housing. If a student drops below the minimum credit hours, he/she will be dismissed from housing. get settled COLLEGE CROSSING Males and females (separate apartments) Housing is available for disabled students. MCC does not provide family housing or housing for couples. Residents: Approximately 240 Layout: Each apartment comes with two twin beds, two chests and two closets in each bedroom. The common area has a dining room table with four chairs, a dishwasher, oven and refrigerator. Each room includes a cable TV jack and phone jack, and wireless internet is provided by MCC. RESIDENCE LIFE Residential living is an integral part of the collegiate experience. Living on campus adds an extra dimension to college life. In MCC student housing, you ll find more than a home you ll discover an exciting, diverse community that places all the advantages of a dynamic community college right at your doorstep. MCC s residence hall program is designed to provide you opportunities for cultural, recreational, social and academic growth as well as enabling you to develop your leadership skills. About 400 students live in MCC s residence housing. THORNTON HALL Females Housing is available for disabled students. Residents: 42 Layout: Thornton Hall features two-bedroom suites on two floors. Two people share one bedroom, and every two rooms share a bathroom. Rooms: Each room comes with two twin beds, two chests, two desks, two chairs and two closets. Each room includes a cable TV jack and phone jack, and wireless internet is provided by MCC. EAGLE HALL Males Housing is available for disabled students. Residents: 118 Layout: Eagle Hall features two-bedroom suites on two floors. Two people share one-bedroom with a sink and vanity, and every two rooms share a toilet and bathtub. Rooms: Each room comes with two twin beds, two chests, two desks, two chairs and double closets. Each room includes a cable TV jack and phone jack, and wireless internet is provided by MCC.

CAMPUS LIFE The Campus Life Program Some of our most popular provides activities designed to campus activities and special complement and supplement interest groups include classroom education. Campus Life involves you in the college and the community, gives you input into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK), Campus Activities Board (CAB), college decision-making, provides Baptist Student Union (BSU), leadership training opportunities, MCC Gospel Choir. and creates professional and personal growth opportunities through student organizations. ATHLETICS MCC is proud of its varsity athletics program. Many of the teams and individual athletes are nationally recognized, and our state-of-the-art facilities complement these high-achieving student-athletes. Attendance at home games is free for full-time students, faculty, and staff with a valid MCC ID. More than 10 activities are offered, featuring team and individual/dual competition. The Intramural Sports program is open to all students currently enrolled at the college and offers diverse opportunities for student groups to promote and represent their organizations while participating in recreational activities.

If you are searching for a major, building a résumé, or looking into different career options, the staff at Webb Hall is here to assist you. STUDENT SUCCESS When you find yourself in need of professional assistance in math, English or computer competency, turn to the Student Success Center and Computer Connection Lab for help. Located on the second floor of Montgomery Hall, these labs offer you the opportunity to take advantage of our professional tutorial staff. Instructor Referral: With an instructor referral, you will receive an appointment form which you will take to the Center. Student Appointments: When you realize you might need a little help, you can stop in at the Center and set up an appointment. Please bring your textbook and any graded papers with you so that we can go over problem areas. You will be given a tutoring form to keep, and we will also send a copy to your instructor so he or she will know that you have sought extra help.
