11 Freshman Scholarships for Fall 2016 OUT-OF-STATE SCHOLARSHIPS Chancellor s Scholarship Full Tuition Scholarship: Increases as tuition increases: ~$48,000 MUST apply for admission by Dec. 15 of senior year ONLY scores from ACT/SAT tests taken through November can be used for eligibility Must have at least a 4.00 GPA and at least a 31 ACT Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and meet Michigan residency requirements for in-state tuition 11

14 Non-Residential Tuition Differential Scholarships Covers the difference between residential and nonresidential tuition. Renewable for up to four years or the completion of a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first. Requirements for Freshmen: U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen Documentation of permanent residency required Must have at least a 3.4 GPA (4.0 scale) and at least a 24 ACT Full-time degree-seeking enrollment at University of Michigan-Dearborn Non-Residential Tuition Differential Scholarships Requirements for Transfer Students: U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen Documentation of permanent residency required Must have at least a GPA of 3.5 (4.0 scale) Full-time degree-seeking enrollment at University of Michigan Dearborn 14

15 Community College Transfer Scholarships $3,000 and $6,000 non-renewable scholarships The award is distributed over Fall and Winter semesters of enrollment: $1,500 per semester CRITERIA: A minimum cum. GPA of 3.5 or 3.75 (as calculated by the Office of Admissions - based on transferable courses from all previous schools attended) Completion of 30 transferable credit hours Community College Transfer Scholarships Recipients must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours); scholarship is pro-rated for enrollment less than full-time Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and meet Michigan residency requirements for in-state tuition Last school attended prior to enrolling at UM-Dearborn must be a community college 15

16 Scholarship Timeline Scholarships are offered 5 business days after a student is admitted by the Office of Admissions & Orientation Offer packet includes: Scholarship Offer Letter Scholarship Certificate Terms and Conditions available online: 3 Options for a Student: Accept/Extend/Decline Decision is recorded online umd.umich.edu/accept Scholarship Timeline Student has until May 1 to accept/decline scholarship Accept = Student is enrolling at UM-Dearborn, plans to pay enrollment deposit and is cancelling admission at all other colleges/universities Extension = Student wishes to have more time to make a decision on scholarship and University Student may request an extension until May 1 All extension requests are AUTOMATICALLY APPROVED Decline = Student is enrolling elsewhere and should cancel admission at UM-Dearborn 16

17 Terms and Conditions Scholarship is pro-rated for enrollment less than full time (<12 credit hours) Available for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters (or until graduation) Scholarship covers Fall and Winter semesters Terms and Conditions available online 24/7: Private Scholarships Private scholarships can provide additional support for students educational expenses. There tend to be more scholarships available to high school seniors who will enter college. Take advantage of your senior year to benefit from a golden time to apply for private scholarships. It is a good idea to start your search locally: unions, local clubs, work and faith-based institutions. 17

18 Scholarship Resource A great place to start for scholarship information, searches, and tips: the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships website: umdearborn.edu/fa_scholarships Scholarship Tips Never pay for a scholarship Do not disclose your Social Security Number When searching, be diligent and specific field of study hobbies gender etc. Beware: This scholarship is guaranteed or your money back. You can t get this information anywhere else. I just need your credit card/bank account number to hold your award. 18
