2. Introduction This document describes the Online Backup Client 3.12.5.3 release. This new release of the Online Backup Client introduces a number of new features and fixes a number of issues that were reported by our customers and discovered during continued testing. 3. Resolved Issues This section lists the issues that have been fixed by this Release. #1523: In specific cases an Exchange backup could fail with the error: Index was out of range. This was the case if one the files from an Exchange backup failed to upload to the server. This problem has been fixed in this release. #1600: When restoring multiple databases form one Exchange Storage Group, duplicate transaction logs were downloaded. This issue has been fixed in this release. #3103: In specific cases the user would get an error during an Exchange backup stating the temporary folder name was longer than 100 characters, which was actually not the case. This problem has been fixed. As a result of this fix the maximum number of characters allowed for the temporary path is now set to 50 characters. #1704: When restoring an Exchange database on a different machine than the original Exchange server was installed on, an error would be raised: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. This problem has been fixed in this release. #1492: In specific cases the backup of Exchange would fail with the error: An incremental backup cannot be performed when circular logging is enabled. This would be the case if circular logging was disabled but the Exchange Information Store was not restarted after this. The behavior has been changed in this release: Now the client will log that Exchange advises to make a full backup in this case and then make a full backup automatically. #1955: Some problems were reported that had to do with Exchange 2000. Please be advised that we only support Exchange 2000 from SP2 on. #1997: In some cases Exchange refuses to create a differential backup but needs a full backup instead. In this case the client always truncated the log files, even if the setting to not truncate log files was enabled. This was fixed so now the option to not truncate the log files is followed. #2003: In some cases during an Exchange backup the error Functions called in an invalid sequence would be raised. This problem has been fixed. #2866: In some specific case the following error could appear when doing an Exchange backup. This would happen if the client tried to make a differential backup of a store which was not the first storage group. This problem has been fixed in this release. Page 3 of 6
#2959: When using the commandline client the option to enable diagnostics logging would not work properly. This has been corrected in this release. #3180: When a file was restored the creation and modified date were not set correctly. They were both set to the time of the restore instead of the original date. This has been corrected in this release. #1937: During a restore the progress details were not displayed correctly. This has been fixed in this release. #1979: For Vista junctions (references to other folders) were being backed up which could cause recursion problems. Junctions are now excluded from backup. #1915: A file that has been backed up (and compressed) with a client older than 3.12.5.1 could not be restored by a 3.12.5.1 client. Also it was not possible to patch a file with a 3.12.5.1 client that was originally backed up with an older client. In the latter case a full backup was being made automatically. These problems were caused by incompatibility between versions of compression routines used. This problem has been corrected in this release which implies that a 3.12.5.1 client can patch and restore files created with a client older than 3.12.5.1. 4. New Features and Improvements This section lists new features and improvements that were added to the agent after feedback from our customers and to improve the user experience. #1794: Support for Exchange 2007 backup has been added in this release. Both store level and folder level backup are supported. 5.Important Notes Some important notes about Exchange (2007) support: After installing the 3.12.5.3 client on an Exchange 2007 server, Outlook Web Access will not work anymore on that machine. To fix this issue you need to execute the following commands: o cscriptc:\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 0 o C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe i In some cases during folder level Exchange backup a folder will be skipped with the error: Partial Completion. This will occur when the folder contains a very large number of messages. A workaround for this problem is to move a number of messages to another folder which may be a subfolder of the original folder. 6. Installation and Upgrade instructions To install the Online Backup Client 3.12.5.3 Release, start the installer. If it detects an existing installation, you must de-install it first. Please note that all your settings, including all your defined Page 4 of 6
backup tasks, will not be removed during de-installation. After de-installation of your current installation is complete, the installation of the Online Backup Client 3.12.5.3 Release can continue. If you are upgrading your installation, you are requested whether or not you want to overwrite the existing settings file. If you want to preserve your settings, press the Cancel button. If you do not want to preserve your settings or prefer a clean installation, press the OK button. When the installer completes, you have the option to start the Online Backup Client (this option is selected by default). When the Online Backup Client 3.12.5.3 starts after a clean installation, the Registration wizard will be presented to you. To complete the wizard, you will need the following information, which will be provided to you by your backup provider: Username password If you already have an account and activated it, you will also need your encryption key. If you are new to the Online Backup Client software, the encryption key is used to encrypt all your backed up data. This key is only known to you, thereby providing ultimate protection of your data. To complete the Registration Wizard, simply follow the on-screen instructions. After you have completed the Registration Wizard you are presented with the Online Backup Client User Interface. Use the Wizards on the Home page to create and run your backup and restore tasks. 7. Automatic Update instructions The Online Backup Client supports automatic updating of your existing installation. To enable automatic update, the automatic update option must have been enabled. If you have not enabled this option, stop and start your agent. When the agent starts again, it will detect that an update is available and ask you whether or not you want to update to the new version. To prevent any issues, please wait with answering to this question until you see the Online Backup Client User Interface. If you answer no to this question, you will still be able to update your current installation via the download link on the About dialog. If you answer yes to this question, the upgrade process will start. In some cases, you may be presented with an unhandled exception error message. This message can be safely discarded as it does not interfere with the update process. The Online Backup Client will now download and install the update. Depending on your connection speed, this may take some time to complete. After the update is completed, the Online Backup Client 3.12.5.3 Release User Interface will appear and the update is completed. Page 5 of 6
In some cases, after the update is completed, the AutoUpdateStarter.exe process may still be running. To resolve this situation, stop the Online Backup Client by right-clicking on the Online Backup Client icon in the taskbar notification area (also known as the system tray) and selecting the 'Exit' menu item. Next, start the Online Backup Client application by double-clicking on the Online Backup Client icon on our desktop. 8. Contact information If you have any questions relating to this release of the Online Backup Client software, please contact your backup provider. Best regards, Your Online Backup Provider Page 6 of 6
